Oh those electrical gremlins can be real pain in the tail. Had a 1981 Olds Cutlass keep frying the diode pack in the alternator. Put like 5 alternators on it would test perfect good charge good bla bla bla and then bam week later not charging again. I traced wires over and over could not find anything. Well long story short again tracing wires following the loom that runs from the left to right headlights I find a pinched main hot on that loom under a bolt by the top radiator plate cover as someone must have been replacing the water pump or something and that wire got caught under a bolt. Crazy thing is it never blew a fuse but obviously now I know what was going on, it was when they turn on their heads lights that was creating a short blowing the alternator. I never would find it because I worked on the car in the day time and never turned the headlights on to see the draw. Anyway I hate wiring issues on cars as they can be a real challenge to find.

Had a similar issue with a 2016 Rav4 recently. ECU IG 3 7. 5A intermittently blown. That particular fuse fed no less than 6 systems. Obvious symptoms included electric power steering, ABS, HVAC control all innop. Power distribution diagrams only identified the systems, not the wires. Had to find the fuse in the diagram for each individual system to identify wires and connection points to start looking for the issue. To cut the story short, connector for the laser cruise/front park sensors sub harness, neither optioned on this truck, was left uncapped in the left front bumper area after some previous body work. Connector developed green death, just add water and, voila! Pop goes the fuse. Look forward to part 2.

Just a hillbilly diagnostic method: If you suspect a scuffed wire that is almost shorting to ground, remove the fuse and unplug the far end. Use the little HV power supply from a neon tube and slowly bring its voltage up until you hear the wire arcing. Then use your eyes and nose to find the arc. A little bit of a pucker factor as it could possibly arc over to another wire and that could be bad.

I've been in the same situation, 05 f150 kept blowing fuses on me, apparently a previous guy who worked on it decided to tap into the 12v lighter plug and wire it to the driver side window acuator switches because it lost power through its native harness, found the main in the door harness had rubbed through and cut power, unless you fished it out you wouldn't know, pain in the ass.

That looks like some super duper newerer Autel you got there and it looks like it's mighty fast. How are you liking it so far? I'm assuming you traded up from the 908. Did your old 908 give you any battery problems? We have the 908 at work and I liked it before the battery shit itself. I've heard that some 908's have awesome batteries and the rest, not so much.

Might have been fun to view the current draw in the circuit to see what you can see when activating loads. Perhaps in Part 2, we'll see (as Paul Harvey might have surmised). the rest of the story. (Then again. You could always install the old 30 amp replacement fuse and ship it. ;-)

Eric, how many of those diagnostic tools do you have? It seems like almost every new video you publish you use a different one.
Are these all yours or are they test samples from the distributor you can use and give your opinion on?

You're couldn't be more correct! I'm the main electrical guy in our shop (I believe, and i know 1st hand having to give the I don't know answer SUCKS, especially when you can't duplicate. The the best you can do is be honest!
