How To Fix A Car Battery That Dies Overnight

I have a look at a Jeep that the customer complains about the battery going dead overnight. There are a few simple tests you can do to hone right in on the root cause of the problem. Enjoyed my wakeup vid. Need a link for what IR cam you use. If the fuse blows while you were using the OTC DVOM as an ammeter, you will then blow the fuse in the DVOM. You have been warned. Use a bigass meter shunt. Like on ebay. Changing that fuse is a PIA. Stay warm and healthy. 60 degrees her in fust free SC at 9: 30 AM

06 impala couple days to kill battery. used VOM to find radio draw. had wife take it to chevy dealer. their solution was new 200 battery. i had told her i thought it was something with the radio. so she passed on the new battery. my only tool VOM. i found if you shut the radio off instead of just turning off the key much less draw. over 10 yrs later hasn't killed the battery since.

Before this video I thought of fuses as just a closed switch with no (measurable) resistance so wouldn't have thought of measuring across them for a voltage drop. I guess now that I think about it it makes sense they have to have a small resistance as otherwise they wouldn't heat and melt when there is over-current. Today's random thing I learned.

Great job, I worked at relay factory years ago, Auto companies have relay designed for a certain lifetime range, we could make a relay at whatever length of time for reliability required. Best relays have gold plated contacts, next is silver but most are made cheaper equals to short life. Thank you for all your videos

Nice dianostic. However, without a fuse box wiring diagram and knowing how to read it, it would be a bit more difficult. Good tip measuring voltage drop across the fuse to determine current flow through it! I learned a new word today 'spellamagician'

I love my Ut210e clamp meter for parasitic draws, no battery disconnect necessary (and I know you can sneak the probes in under the terminal, but sometimes even the best intentions fail due to unforeseen circumstances) and also - NO FUSES: )

I would not be done. You said that the relay controls the O2 sensor what if the a bad sensor or a ecm caused the relaynto stay on and that caused the relay contacts to weld closed? May fix the check eng light to!

Well done buddy. I thought for sure when I saw the stray wire coming off the battery
and the remote start fob that it was going to be an after-market accessory that was goofing up. Nope!
