My Pipe Dreams Are Muffled By Exhaustion
video description
I don't to much exhaust work here. I hate it, #1, but I also can't compete with these shops in the city that'll throw on a whole custom bent system for less than I can even BUY a system at any parts store, even online. Fine with me! LOL.
About the same shape as my Silverado. I've been keeping mine oiled up for the past 12 years. Already rotted out the rear fenders by 2021. Fixed it once that spring, and it blew out again immediately, lol. It's loaded with Bondo. Looks terrible. I spent a whopping 1. 75 hours on both sides, HAHAHA! Used the twisted wire wheel on the rust, then slapped the ol' Bondo right over it, then rattlecanned it black. Can see all the deep gouges from that wire wheel. Guess I should've let the filler outgas before painting it, too - I had blisters almost immediately. That's why I'm a mechanic, and not a bodyman!

Yea! An exhaust install that you can do fairly easy - no rusted clamp / nuts, pipes fused together and won't separate, have to drop shields and shocks to get it in! Nice of Mrs. O. to come pay you a visit and see if you're working! I miss Luna and her debut appearances, she always has a lot to say! Drilling a drain hole is above and beyond most standard mechanics - but you go the extra 5 miles so the customer gets more life out of the parts you install for him/her! Well done, Eric. Can't wait for the next one.

The weep hole thing reminds me of a Nissan xterra that come through the shop one winter for a crank no start. It was dropped off the night before so we pushed it in the drip bay to thaw. Next morning it fired right up. Turns out some exhaust work was done and the muffler filled so full of water it would freeze overnight and actually blocked the exhaust. Drilled a hole, drained it out, right as rain.

A Friend of Mine owns a Muffler shop - he uses a Sawsall. Seems to Work Very Well! Seems ALOT SAFER! Seems to Me a Torch is Kinda UNSAFE around a Gasoline car? barring specific torch needed uses. Frozen bolts etc. taking bolts out.
Cordless Milwaukee sawsall with a 12 blade in it. Very fine blade / alot of Tpi. 24-40 Tpi.

PRNY, I love it, but I wonder how many local officials think it's a compliment? Here in the high deserts of PRCA, we got the last real snow in 2009, and when that happens, they dump volcanic cinders on the road (cost 10 times more than salt) tears up the paint but does not cause rust. I have a 1971 Chevy El Camino that is rust-free.

Great exhaust job Eric. The only thing I happened to notice is the spare tire wobbled some when you were working near it. It probably needs snugging up to the frame a bit before it gets even looser and it would also be good for the owner to check the tire pressure in the spare in case it's needed someday.

For all the people who criticize the torch work, the sawzall works until you have to split the intermediate pipe and peel it from the front pipe. I use both. My personal choice would be sawzall until heat was needed. Rust flakes taste better than sparks and slag for a DIY working on their back.

Hi Eric, have you ever had an issue where you were not able to replace exhaust manifold bolts when broken off in a 2008 F150 4. 6l 4x4? My local shop has stated if they break off the bolts and they cannot get them out I would have to replace the engine, it only has 70k miles on the truck.

Trust issues?
Those are the guys who tell Tom Brady how to throw the ball.
While your under the car, how about some educational stuff on suspension components. Mainly the rubber bushings and determining how good they are. They all have some give to them. How much is to much?

The guy that put the Fluid Film on, must have missed the spare tire rim. The engineer that decided a good place for a spare was up under the back of a truck, should have included a blue flame wrench in the design, so you can actually get the spare down if you need it.

I'm exhausted from thinking of exhaust comments so i'll leave it at that. Wish I had fluid film when I lived in Chicago burbs many moons ago. A couple of my cars and peoples cars I worked on would have been so much more clean on the undercarriage.

2 tings, Stainless steel isn't stainless and stainless steel exhausts take FOREVER to cut through. but they do last way longer than the crap metal from the 70s and 80s. you'd be lucky to get a year out of a pipe and muffler in NY state

Eric, can I bring my Highlander from Ohio for exhaust? Just kidding! I was on your livestream for a while last night. Thanks for sharing how to install the correct way. Nice refresher for us DIY guys who only do this every 10 years.

I would love to see probably with everyone else a mechanic challenge with Scotty Kilmer. Diagnosing an engine problem or something like that! It's my belief that Scotty would need a lot of Scott tissue crying from losing!
