Comparison with 2015 1. 2 TSI Polo 95PS (which I own)
2015 - Really fun to drive, fast and manoeuvrable, pulls away in 2nd easily.
2015 - suspension cushioned by comfortable well padded seats - shorter wheelbase deals well with UK roads
2020 version 95PS
2 extra doors (good)
Not so much fun to drive - 1. 0L 95PS engine is thrashy (sounds like a scooter when you accelerate)
Will let you down if you pull out from junctions in 2nd gear
Seats are larger(good) but are hard as boards - the longer wheel base and the hard seats make it really uncomfortable.
Lots of hard plastic that doesn't appear in the earlier version.
Windscreen is a lot narrower - if your over 6 foot, driving feels like you're peering through a letter box.
So this won Car of the Year 2020?
I can't imagine there was much competition.

I-m getting rid of mine after just over 3 years of ownership. I can-t fault the car. I-ve had it from new and driven it 51, 000 miles and it-s been nothing but reliable. My only real critiques of the car are the rattles in the interior, the somewhat lack of power in the 1. 0 TSI (95PS engine) and the 5 speed manual gearbox. Although the engine is punchy enough for every day driving around cities/towns/villages, in order to get up to motorway speeds in a reasonable time you need to rev it quite high. VW definitely should have offered the 1. 5L 4 cylinder engine found in the Golf.

I've got a golf mk7 and my girlfriend has a polo mk5. One thing I notice in the polo is the controls are incredibly light compared to mine. For example the clutch just goes straight to the back of the footwell if you as much as look at it funny. Is this still a thing with the mk6?
Gives it a much less premium feel I found. Stiffer controls are definitely something I'd pay a little extra for in the golf.

Wonderful to look at but the 1 litre petrol is totally inadequate for all that weight. Once you're going it's quiet and refined. It's getting there which is hard work. The clutch is also quite vague and spongy, making smooth and precise gear changes difficult. The engine lets this car down. If you get it, make sure you get something more powerful than the lowest cost engine

Sigh. Why do car manufactures insist on making every new model bigger than the last. It-s a polo it should not be bigger than a mk4 golf ffs. Bloody crap like blind spot assist. Learn to drive. Roads, car parking and garages are not getting bigger so why are cars. More steel, more environmental impact in both manufacturing and running.

I-ve just bought this car today in white and I love it already. So looking forward to my journeys in this car. And the fact it-s maintained a really good value! Vw-s hold their value much better than other cars. It drives so smoothly I feel like I-m on a magic carpet. It-s gorgeous would highly recommend to anyone considering.

The superminis are now the size of the old family cars. Over 4, 000 mm length v circa 3, 800. 1750 width v 1, 650. I went to have look at some of the newer superminis and when I parked my car it looked like a city car by comparison. Smaller cars are definitely putting on weight.

Almost 4 months into owning this car and so far I like it. Indeed very easy and relaxing to drive.
Fuel consumption is good as well! I once managed to reach 50mpg on a 6 mile commute to work, that took 10 minutes. Generally it's around 40mpg for me, I try to take it easy.

Lovely car. Probably would take it over a Golf for urban driving. That is what the modern obsession with size leads to. Cars that were considered small and sensible like the Golf are now oversized and certainly not fit for urban and shrt trip extra urban driving.

its misleading in that the video says with the upgraded screens you can have the pas displayed on the main dash as SatNav is an extra even on the Polo GTI Plus which i took delivery of today. not best pleased.
