The Volkswagen T-Roc: it's the German brand's take on the small SUV. It's got striking looks and comes in a range of eye-catching colour combinations both inside and out - but does it have the substance to match the style? I find out in this in-depth review

I bought one, a 1. 5 evo engine Design model. The fuel mapping gives this car a dead spot as you try and pull away, often causing it to stall meaning you are waiting for the crunch at the back as someone runs into you. ( Loads on internet VW can't fix ie bad engine ) Poor standard headlights, Reverse lights are brighter. hard and uncomfortable seats. Poor fuel economy at motorway speeds ( Could do with higher 6th ratio ) will give good mpg below 60mph though. For 150 bhp is really lazy to get going, again fuel / engine mapping. Been waiting 6 months for VW to find fix. Still no call from my main dealer Ingrams at Ayr. So i SOLD it at 1 year and 3 days old. Bought a mini cooper Clubman 200% better car in every way. Fit finish, cabin materials, drivability and feel from within. I had a VW Golf mk7 2. 0 Gt spec diesel prior to the Troc and it was a fantastic car in every way. Don't buy a Troc they are a souless car with average handling and hard plastic interior leaving a cold feel overall. I've had one and ran it for a year, my advice is don't buy it feels cheap and nasty. I have nothing against VW i loved my Golf, that was my second one. i think i have clocked enough miles in them to know the Troc is not a good car.

Just had one of these as a dealer courtesy car. This was a metallic blue R-Line 1. 6 manual Diesel variant. While the exterior appearance is great, the quality of the interior plastics is unforgivable. Especially the top surface of the dash and the hideous plastic trim that runs along it. Also well below par is. the horn, which I found was actually embarrassing to use. At the end of the day I was only too pleased to get back into my 2011 Passat (which is far from perfect itself.

The only advantage of this car is the boot space. No bigger in the back than a golf. Controls are the same as the golf, but with a very cheap interior. Wobbly on the test drive too. If you don't need the extra space get a golf it's just a better car. If you do need the space get a Seat Ateca - better quality interior, nicer exterior, bigger but the same price. I don't know what this car is for. Trying to fill a niche that doesn't exist.

I have a Passat estate GT 16 plate company car and it-s an absolute dream, the interior is far superior to this T roc and it-s a couple of years older. I have to trade my Passat for one of these early next year, gutted to say the least really hope VW do something with the interior in the next 6 months, even the centre console looks half hearted something you would expect to find in a Ford KA.

Couldn-t wait to get this car. Had to wait 5 months which was a bit long but I could live with it until they emailed me saying it-s going to take another 3 months on top got my money back but what a joke to make someone wait that long and for them to email first. Just got my self a new A class and was BY FAR easier

Have been driving the T-Roc for 2 days now as a temporary replacement car. The car is a compleet shit. Seats are horrible, Polo-like. The interior is just plastics all over. The 1. 0 tsi 3 cil has no power, it handles like shit. The analog dashboard looks likes an '98 golf. Just a rubbish car.

Yes, a very helpful and to the point review. Thanks Matt. Regarding rough road capability, I've noticed that the T-Roc has relatively minimal ground clearance, in fact less than the T-Cross. I think that I understand VW's rationale but potential buyers need to be aware of this limitation.

All good, but it retains all the irritating parts of the Golf, most notably the bad support for wide-shouldered thick-legged gentlemen such as myself. If you feel like a geriatric cripple every time you get out of your Golf, don't think the T-Roc will make it any better for you.

Dear Matt. I love your reviews. The only thing I-d say is when you list the 5 cool features of a car, you shouldn-t really then just mention features you get on premium models. 5 cool features and 5 annoying things should be on all models. Just my thoughts: )

Mats presentation is excellent review. This T Rock in -live- is much more worse as seems to be. Hard plastic (2: 48 whaaaat: -, single rubber sealing on the door, - crappy rubber seal on the bottom of the door. does not worth this amount of money.
