Tesla Model Y 2022 review - the BEST electric SUV?

Watch out! It may make you throw up. Our brand new Model Y Long Range, collected 23rd February 2022 from the NEC in the UK, made in Shanghai so actually made in 2021, gives us headaches and makes us throw up. It has standard 19inch wheels with awful Hankook tyres, whose tread pattern looks very similar to that of a 7. 5te truck.
With no parcel shelf supplied, the pounding of these tyres on the road, amplifies throughout the cabin to cause a reverberating sound pressure wave that assaults our ears, similar to the sound pressure -beat- when being close to a helicopter.
After Tesla Service Nottingham agreed this -was harsh to the ear- and then, gave us -they are all the same guv & it will wear off after 200 miles or so as the tyres wear in- typical dealer guff, we tried driving it again.
We got headaches after a few miles and our driver had to stop to throw up at 120 miles.
At 543 miles, the reverberation hasn't -worn off- and we can only reduce it a little by increasing cabin pressure via turning on -bio defence mode- or driving with the windows open - not a realistic option on motorway journeys obviously.
Tesla told us that we should approach Black Horse Finance - Tesla's finance partner in the UK - if we wished to achieve a -mutually satisfactory outcome-.
Black Horse Finance initially assured us that the vehicle will be returned to Tesla for a full refund and so, to stand by for their vehicle collection contractor to take it away.
Weeks later, it seems that Black Horse Finance may be going back on their word, after Tesla told them the same -they are all the same guv- guff and declined to fix it.
Apart from this obvious, fatal flaw, we love the car and would be very happy if Tesla fixed it.
Or, if Tesla took it back, we would happily order another one (maybe even a Model Y Performance) - assuming that to be booming reverberation-free - as we see from other reviewers that this problem seems to have been fixed on new production out of Giga-Berlin.
We have had a Model 3 Long Range for 2 years that we love and have a Model X Plaid reservation, that we are saving hard for, in the hope we can afford one when UK pricing gets announced.

I am a Model y HP 2022. You can turn off video after you read my summary: )
1) Forget about saving $ by switching to EV! that is non start if you do the math, of course if you can keep the car running for +300000 miles then you can save but where is the proof? I am not sure if my car can last 200000 miles without changing battery or some other major replacement/fix.
2) cost for insurance of ICE car is cheaper but other maintenance will be added. bottom line is insurance and maintenance of EV IS MORE expensive than ICE
3) performance, EV is plus! this is where EV strength. If you like tech, like fast start going uphill then this is for you! especially the autopilot, it will be handy when you are stuck on freeway for hours. I don't want to press on the brake when i am stopped, really tired. But Tesla has some design limitation (heavy steering wheel, charge is on the back? what a dumb design to me. My HP car is shaking a lot, it is not a smooth ride you want to travel! Lastly, EV is NOISY, more than ICE car. The sound of the motor is very noticeable, it isnt quiet like a lot of Tesla fans said. I paid $73k but let my wife ride most of the time. It doesn't go fast compared to ICE car either (i am talking about normal ride, of course you can beat others by fast start, not long ride. My conclusion: if you can afford Tesla then worth a try but dont try because you want to save money! if you are a guy thinking car getting you from point A to B then forget Tesla.

Been driving my Model Y Performance since June 2020, and love driving it every time I'm in it. Took it on two long range trips, one to Yellowstone National Park, and one to the Grand Canyon. Both trips were about 8k miles/12. 8k km, and with the superchargers, the charging was pretty trivial, spending 15-20 minutes on average at each one, which was usually just enough time to use the bathroom, stretch my legs, and grab a snack/drink. Autopilot made much of the driving less stressful as well, since it keeps the car centered in the lane, while also keep its distance from a car in front moving slower than I was.
For my everyday driving to work and back, I simply charge it up in my garage. When it's hot or cold outside, I can also turn the air conditioner/heater on inside my garage with no worries about carbon monoxide or someone stealing my car because I left it running unattended like in a gas car. I also love watching an episode of shows on Netflix during my 30 minute lunch break.
Can't wait to see Giga Berlin up and running, and seeing more Model Y's driving around Europe!

The new Tesla should be called -Elon, listen to Matt's suggestions to improve your cars and implement them now-
I love Tesla's and can't wait to get my X Plaid but I'm so disappointed by the little things missed out on some of the models which Matt highlights, what! no parcel shelf, Elon you are kidding me, plus the poor turning circle, why! and cup holders where you rest your arm on the rear arm rest, what were Tesla's designers thinking. That said all the other amazing standard features are great.
I driven a few Tesla's on test drives and in all of them the brakes are relatively poor with respect to the power and top speed you have under your right foot. Come on Elon upgrade the brakes on all models as standard. please.

Shame the Model Y is spoiled by the simple things made poorly. The phone interface is the worst imaginable. Names can not be typed in, so you have to use your phone to make the calls - talk about going back to the '00. Huge screen, but relevant information is displayed in minute fonts, which are difficult to see in the dark. Speaking of the screen, a third is wasted on showing other cars that you see anyway. The adjustable cruise control has a maximum distance to the car in front of only seven cars, this is not a safe distance in wet weather. Small things, I know, but why have they not been fixed?

I'm a little surprised that Tesla hasn't come up with a system where an internal camera scans the driver, and locates the driver's eyes, and then auto-adjusts the rear view mirrors for you. I would have to imagine it shouldn't be that hard to do, and it would really be a cool feature. Obviously there would still be the option of doing it manually via the screen like now, but still; if done right I'd think it could be spot on 99% of the time. C'mon Elon, get on the ball, ya slacker!

I wish we could merge Teslas technology with Skodas practicality. After six months with my Enyaq I will never ever buy a car without HUD and matrix lights. At the very same time, I am furious about the reliability of Skoda's software. it's just terrible! but yes, ofc, having a lot of space with shopping bag hooks and nets in the boot is more important than acceleration below 5 sec; )

I really don't get people's fascination with performance. For a family car it's such an unimportant factor. Most of these EVs have sufficient performance either way.
Tesla have a few things going for them, but the interior is enough reason for me to never buy it. And it's such an ugly car. But each to their own. Makes perfect EV purchase if you're not a car person I guess.

I drive my father's 2014 BMW and that heads-up display is something that has been absolutely life-changing for me. For a car that has a base model priced set at almost 60 grand, I feel like it would have been an amazing decision by Tesla to add that heads-up display for that extra safety + ease with having to utilize their car. But again, that's just my opinion! Well done, Mat!
