BMW M3 v Porsche 911: DRAG RACE

It-s time for a BMW M3 vs Porsche 911 Carrera drag race! These are two of the best performance cars you can buy for under -90, 000. The question is, should you go all-out sports car with the 911, or pick the more family-friendly M3? Starting with the 911, you-ll find a 3-litre flat-six engine under the bonnet that can deliver 385hp and 450Nm. It weighs in at 1, 505kg and it-s RWD. As for the M3, it-s powered by a 3-litre straight-six twin-turbo that puts down 510hp and 650Nm. So it-s up on power compared to the Porsche, but it-s also up on weight, tipping the scales at 1, 730kg. And just like the 911, it-s RWD. So what do you think - will the weight difference power the 911 to victory?

A Porsche that won-t rev? Depressing. It-s rather like a race horse that won-t jump fences.
Did the Germans consult their customers on this SIGNIFICANT change? No.
They self righteously decided to rip out the soul of the car - one the key aesthetics: REVVING YOUR ENGINE AND HEARING THE SOUND.
Ferrari are no better; the soul of a Ferrari is the beautiful symphony of the engine--. However, most new Ferrari models sound like vacuum cleaners. They have ripped out the soul of the brand by trying to be all things to all people- All Ferrari engines should be naturally aspirated - the stunning growling sound of a Ferrari is its USP. People bought into the Ferrari brand because of the engine noise. Under current circumstances, Ferrari customers should save their cash and buy a Tesla instead.

Some times you guys should continue your drag race beyond the 1/4 mile to see exactly when the other car will catch and pass the 1/4 mile winner (if the cars are similar to these. The BMW M3 should have easily gone by the 911 just beyond the 1/4 mile based on its power advantage and being so close in the 1/4 mile. Just a thought. I think that would be an interesting race to add to the (1/4 mile, 50 roll, 3rd gear roll) races you always do. Also, remember all it takes is a quick tune to remove that top speed limiter. No way I'd be limited to 155 mph in a new M3. For example a $37k Civic Type R can do 170 mph. So there's no way an M3 should be held back to only 155 mph. My nearly 30 year old 1994 Camaro Z28 (only 275hp, LT1) did 155 mph (bone stock.

911 > any other car
It-s just a car which is thought about all the way
I mean, would you get a M3 or a 911?
Ofc a 911! Why would you buy a performance BMW if you could have a Porsche for the same money. The quality in a Porsche and the design is awesome and the Porsche sounds better when driving than the M3
292km/h is nuts
Even on the German Autobahn not drivable in most occasions
Reving in a standstill is boring ngl

Could you please run the base vs S, this the numbers are all over the place with these two 992's on one -s4-model 992 you ran a 3sec flat and 11. 9 qtr, this run on the base was 11. 7 qtr, what was the 0-60, another base you ran a best of 3. 76. thx u. by the way I have 21 992 base white(black S wheels and blk trim) love it. nyc

Base 911 cannot beat my f80 with dual clutch, the launch is simply better and shifts like a beast.
G80 with ZF transmission is a retrograde step by bmw-the transmission is still lagging while the engine is at high revs, result is wheel spin-up shifts same issue.
I will still buy the 911 4S

Gotta love Carwow's formula -
Not trying to make some weird grandiose point about cars, not playing rock music over the sound of the video, not trying to be top gear. Just simple facts about the cars, a quick race and some great humor.
Excellent work

Matt could you at least once race a base 911 with the sports chrono so you can use launch control and the boast button during the rolling race? It-s only a $2800 option but should have an even greater impact on performance.
reply

Please get a driver that can do a good launch in every car like you do and put a camera in the other car either. I hate to see if someone is so silly that can-t even launch a car properly!

How did one know that the 911 would win the 1/4 mile? Oh! Because Matt wasn't driving his daily driver. Kinda takes the mystery out of the race. Besides, this dude hates to lose.
