About 4 years ago i spoke to an auto electrician and a software writter about combining an iphone in to the dashboard to use the biometric part to start the car, we then went on to talk about using the same feature to actually enter the car, which wasnt, on the face of it a hard thing to do, the first problem was we wanted to use Apple iphone and its tech, who refused point blank to give us permission to do such a thing using their patented tech, so using face id wasnt even questionable at the time.
We looked at other bio-metric tech whilst buying biometric hardware wasnt a problem the cost of actually getting some one to write the software was huge and ended up as a no go also.
This would have given the user a great tool to fight car theft, which was how the whole idea started from in the first place!

I have a really mixed bag of emotions when it comes to patents. Firstly it's often the -How-to- that is important in an idea and not the raw concept. Secondly, if they just -shelf- the concept/idea and not do anything with it it actually harms the industry, because some other manufacturer might have an implementation in mind, but they cannot do it cause -Apple- has just -cleverly- patented their shit for 5-10 years. I've heard about cases where someone's hands were severely tied by someone patenting an idea that they didn't even intend to do anything with. so the -progress- was halted/stopped for a long duration. I think this is a lot more common-place in hi-tec industries than we might be aware of.

Body work as a screen, good for comercial vehicle sign writing and advertising. Robo taxis, who is going to keep them clean inside between journeys, as a taxi driver I can assure you almost nobody bat's an eyelid to trashing interiors of taxis, kids muddy feet on seats, people who have stood in dog shit, smokers who will use the vehicle as an ashtray, weekend revelers with spilt drinks, takeaway food and dubious bodily fluids (vomit, spit, sperm etc) all over the interior of Robo taxi if no driver is keeping order.

Well for me it will depend on how much manual control option Apple will allow for all those features you presented. I am an iPhone user and am willing to accept Apple bullying me by showing that the think they know better what I actually want (still, for me a better overall fit than Android)- but not in a car!
Especially not if it ll be priced at a premium like all Apple Products.
Plus they better not forget that some ppl may want to have fun while driving-

Might be a great car but.
You wont get support on it.
You'll need to book a Genius appointment months in advance.
They'll be no user manual so you'll have to Google Reddit to find how to operate it.
When you do get to see someone, they'll be a surly, disinterested nerd who will condescend the hell out of you.
And ultimately you'll be back where you started with no idea how to move forward.

I wish the team did more research. Apple has thousands of patents that never come to fruition. There are many, many interesting ones through shell companies that have never been made relating to iPhones and Macs, including weird ones like a pop out antenna for MacBooks when they planned to add 3G to the MacBook over a decade ago. No, the body will not have a screen, its just a patent.

3: 13 NOPE sorry. I have enough BULL SH-T distracting me and others around me. THIS is the last thing we need. F-cking Apple. Just doing stuff to be cool when infact this is a distraction. They have no business making cars. These are just going to be more appliance than Tesla's currently are. Ugh.

Apples history: -we are changing the iPhone so many new changes and upgrades are coming it is insane-
Actuality the last 10 years: same phone with better camera and -chip- (oh that they create themselves and name themselves) but the phone is exactly the same

you-re an idiot if you end up trusting APPLE to make you a reliable car. they literally used to and probably still do make their phone batteries die on purpose quicker than it should so you-ll spend more money. such a crap company- commented from iPhone

As a computer scientist, I have to admit Apple has very talented computer engineers. Their hardware team is simply amazing. The new M1 chip is incredible for an ARM CPU. If they put these people to work on this thing, Tesla will have problems.
