This is the all-new Kia Sportage! Mat-s got his hands on this all-new family-friendly SUV to see if it has what it takes to compete with class leaders like the Volkswagen Tiguan! So what-s new with the Sportage? Well for starters, it-s definitely more striking than its predecessor! Around the back, you-ll find taillights and looks which are similar to the EV6, while upfront you-ll find a striking grille and some more aggressive bits of trim in the bumper (at least, you will if you choose the GT Line trim. It looks good once you take a step inside, too. There-s a large infotainment & dials screen up front, along with plush feeling, high-quality materials throughout. When it comes to performance, you-ve got a choice of diesel, petrol and hybrid engines. The top-of-the-range is the plug-in hybrid, where the 1. 6-litre turbo petrol engine combines with an electric motor to deliver 265hp! What-s more, it-s not exactly that expensive either, with the price starting at around -27, 000! So what do you think - is it worth it?

The front end is just weird. Thing is, it not a functional difference, but a simply different to be different and not in a good way. The fact that the rear windows rolling all the way down is special, is just a red mark to all other car manufactures that build cars with this limitation in the first place. I see it as a poor design and a good reason to shop elsewhere.
In other news, as a tall person I can really appreciate longer and higher seat cushion. Even though I wouldn't expect to spend more than a short time in the rear compartment of anything other than a full-sized vehicle. I don't like the rear quarter window either, as SUV should feel airy. Finally, that seat belt from the ceiling is just goofy and really needs to be changed.
The blind spot cameras are pure genius, and something all car manufactures needs to copy. A feature that's not just cosmetic, but one that actually makes driving easier and safer. One last thing, the piano black needs to die a slow and painful death. I won't be buying a new car until that trend is over.

Narrow space on rear sits for passengers' legs is a huge disadvantage, especially compared to Tucson, which offers an almost 90 degrees opening of its doors making entry as easy as it can get.
The hard full of edges plastic in the back surface of Sportage headrests can cause serious head damage in case of car accident even at low speed when the rear passenger has his seat belt off.
Use of cheap plastic is not a surprise in this range, but Sportage could have avoided it in some silly details (eg center of steering wheel.
7 year or 150. 000 kms limits warranty, whatever of these two comes first, is better compared to TUCSON's 5 year warranty.
Design is subjective, but it seems that Tucson is better good looking on its outside and Sportage on its inside. Apart from that, it's a safety plus that Sportage has its back turning lights are leds integrated into its tail lights line, unlike Tucson.
INHO Sportage is a compilation of ideas with no clear direction, contrary to 2022 Tucson which has a straightforward character.

Seriously unbelievable. 'The middle seatbelt impedes the view of the rear view mirror. As will a centre rear passenger ' FFS - is this man really that simple? -The rear-view camera is a bit low and will get covered with road grime as it doesn't have a washer wiper thingy ' - seriously? Road-grime is going to chase the car and reach the camera! Matt - do you understand basic aerodynamics? What SUV has a washer wiper on the rear view camera and did you hear the one about the Landover in Gabon where the driver ran out of water in his windscreen wash bottle and had to drive 50 miles to find a water supply? What car do you drive everyday? Clearly not one with piano black interior finish as you would know that means greasy marks and dust galore. Never mind scratches.

KIA has really upped their game over the past few years. I remember my dad had a 2006 Sportage back in the day and seeing how much it has changed over the year is insane. They-re such good cars when you take care of them. We had ours for 10 years? And it was still in excellent shape when we ended up selling it. And the way they look now, inside and out, im actually considering buying one myself when i get the money together. This Sportage is beautiful.

Just ordered my Sportage. Was the first SUV I test drove, and the competition never quite beat it. I enjoyed your review. The only gripe I have is that the electronic tailgate on the 2w petrol hybrids is only available on the GT Line S. For the money, I'd have expected the tailgate option to be on the Sportage 3 and above maybe. certainly on the Sportage 4. Didnt notice the brake noise. will have to listen out for that!

Its unreal to me to see how much KIA as a brand has improved over just a decade, from being a literal shit box, lowest end cheapest cars on the market, to some of the best designed, highest kit and tech cars on the market, I mean the interior is like a Q5! The exterior is nicer than every single BMW being sold today. God. There ugly. So props to kia. Mind boggling glow up.

Nice review. But. modern times. electronics in modern cars, trucks, utes and whatever. Digital dash. My 2013 American Ford Focus has a small digital dash. fuse went. nothing. No fun driving and guessing. The fuse was BURIED under dasj on the passenger side. The fuse was an -itty bitty- fuse. I don't want ANY digital in my dash panel. I like the old style real dash

In straya, Kia Sportage GT petrol (ignoring the front end design fubar) is available with a waiting period of 10-12 months or for immediate purchase but with 10-15k AUD on top of the dealership price.
after a year one will end up with a vehicle that is bypassed by a newer trim. zzz

About the weird groaning sound of the car, I have a kia rio and it was making exact sound too. I showed it to the service, but they couldn't find the problem. after 5. 000km of driving, the sound gone for some reason. So you don't have to worry about it: )
reply

The sound it's making while moving/crawling slowly is because the foot is on the brake pedal and the car is new rubbers on the brake pedal are new as well so as the car will be driven more and more it won't make this sound anymore. That's what i think -
