Which is the best luxurious plug-in hybrid - the Audi A8, or the Mercedes S-Class? Well, we re putting them to the test to find out! When it comes to luxury limousines, it doesn t get much better than these two cars. The question is, when they both look so good and are fitted with great materials throughout the cabin, can you choose one over the other? Well, let s see if we can separate them when it comes to performance! Starting with the Audi, it comes equipped with a 3-litre V6 turbo coupled with an electric motor to deliver 462hp. It drives all four wheels and will set you back at least 86, 000 (although the long-wheelbase version we have here starts at 89, 000. Then we have the S-Class, which has a 3-litre straight-six along with an EV motor, which both deliver 367hp and 150hp. We don t have a combined figure yet though. And no, it isn t as simple as just adding them both together! There s one key difference with the S-Class though - the LWB edition will set you back at least 111, 000! Is that enough to make you choose the Audi? You ll have to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

The change to the battery on the Audi is because they likely switched the manufacturer of the battery pack, rather than to simply increase capacity. Battery tech changes so quickly, many manufacturers are realising their initial battery decisions might not make the most business sense. Audi's first gen hybrids and EVs had batteries that will live a much shorter life than the current gen. I say this as an Audi E-tron owner with the 2nd gen battery.

The luxury interior of Mercedes is SOMETHING. - SOMETHING YOU DON'T WANT TO REMEMBER OR TAKE SERIOUS That is looking so cheap and it is, I guess Couple of tablets and air conditioning grills, sure, turning near limousine size car into a LUXURY And that's the giant well-known worldwide corporation Looks like they climbed a hill and then went over it, sliding down into abyss with great speed

How come there be a fair competition among luxury cars if most people be saying yeah, the Audi is same or slightly better, but I choose Merc because of how other people perceive it. Imagine judgement like this on Olympics - yeah, they both performed exceptionally, but this dude is from a rich family, so he is the winner. That's why we can't have fair competition on any market ever.

To start with why would anyone buy a lower spec S class or A8? If I m buying either of these two I want them in top spec with absolutely every box in the world ticked.
I m from Australia & we don t do low spec luxury limos it s top notch or nothing. So car wow you need to have them matched as the most expensive version of each car it s after all a luxury limousine.

When you look for luxury, comfortness and stuff Mercedes is always better than all (for the price. Audi a8 and BMW 7 series cars good as well but if we talk about the comfort, not only driver's comfort but also passenger's, Mercedes is the best. I personally would prefer the comfort rather than speed, because it is a high quality luxury car!

Do you always drive with the steering wheel so high up?
In the Mercedes the top of the steering wheel is level to your nose and in the Audi it's level to your eyes. It must block some of your view out the front window.
Nice review by the way
I'll have the Mercedes

Genuine q. If you have a phev and you never / rarely engage the engine, won't the petrol degrade and then do damage / be rubbish when it finally does turn on?
And even if it does turn on occasionally, will that be enough to ensure the fuel doesn't go off?

I love Audi cars but this has to be the correct verdict for this hybrid test. A range of 60 miles is seriously useful (even if in reality it is only 50 ish. A range of 30 (which in reality may only be 25) is too much like a last generation gimmick.

Mercedes is leading in term of exterior and interior quality but mechanically it started to lack behind, the m5 cs is destroying the merc also alot of companies are catching up and sometimes surpassing the mechanics of the merc in all aspects

As with most things in life it is all relative which one is best. For most of here including myself, who will never ever be able to buy and drive one of these, they both would feel and drive amazing coming from our Fiesta s or Passat s.

Purpose of charger: to be able to drive into London w/o fees. (will never be used in real life)
Customer: Executive Car Service or corporate operated limo (with offices in area of London with congestion charges or driving restrictions)

The S class looks more elegant than the A8 in my opinion. And if you're driving a limo, that's what matters. Driving this is about status in my opinion.
However Audi succeds in other areas

reply

Both are just sooooo boring looking. I don't see anything classy or elegant anymore, just unoriginal and afraid of change. So much potential to experiment in this class is going wasted.
