Learn how to properly paint your exhaust. It is very easy to do. Painting your mufflers, catalytic converters, exhaust manifolds, and the rest of the exhaust will protect it from rusting and make it look nicer. A painted exhaust will add value to your vehicle and let the exhaust last the life of your car! All you need to do is sand the exhaust, clean it off, spray the paint in even coats, recoat after 30min, and then let cure Products Used

Hey Chris I know you sometimes reply to your really old vids but I'm kinda lost and taking a shot! I have an old car with a rusted exhaust shield above the cat that you can now poke holes through. I've removed the rivets and the shield itself and I'm looking at ways to replace this.
Since it's an old car I doubt I can find the exact part number, so I'm thinking of buying a steel plate, shape it into a shield and paint it with some exhaust level paint. The problem is I can't decide how thick the metal should be. I have to choose from 0. 7mm to 1mm, 1, 2mm, 1. 5mm and 2mm. Which one is best?

Hello! I was inspired by your video and was interested in doing this to my Toyota Tacoma 1999. I am sanding the pipes starting from my exhaust, past my muffler, all the way to my intermediate pipe. Doing this process while watching your video made it really easy! Ohh and I also had a question. Im doing this also because It is specially formulated to prevent rust so I was wondering, how is the exhaust holding up in your Mazda? Is there any rust spots at all since youve done this project?
reply

Chris, I know this video is pretty old, I'm just wondering if you still have the vehicle and how to paint held up and preventing rust. I recently bought a vehicle from the north and live in the south and I'm doing this same technique. I'm also wondering if primer is necessary or if just the straight paint works as a preventative measure for rust. Love your videos thank you man!

hey chris im using VHT chrome plate spray paint to paint a brand new tailpipe i bought off advance auto parts online, it looks great now cause its new and clean, im painting it to try and keep it looking nice, since it has no rust do i need to sand it? can i just wipe it down with alcohol and spray it down with the paint? do i need a high heat primer?

Hey Chris, if I use the high heat primer how long should I wait until adding on the actual coats of spray paint. THANKS in advance

The first time he said, Hey guys, ChrisFix here and little did he know he would be doing hundreds of those over the years

RO high heat is great and all, but not priming on a rust prone exhaust, well what he didnt tell you is that it didnt last.
