man, got to rant for a minute. Had a queak from belt after awhile of driving with a vehicle I picked up the other day but not bad. spray water on it, goes away for a few seconds. took to Midas for oil change and check. said it was a pulley and changed it and said it helped a little. Then said it was a 2nd pulley. Same story. Then tensioner spring which they can't get to unless they cut things apart because a bolt wouldn't break loose. then they'd have to replace the water pump and rebuild stuff? I had them stop at the 2 pulleys. they said the noise was a lot less and better. I went out to the car. it's much much worse and constant. I went back in and discussed. they they x 3 stood their ground. Said it was very loud when I came in with my Dad/Mom when it wasn't making Any sounds. it's at another mechanic right now to see what's going on. Any Midas experiences? guess I should have tried to address it myself

Yo folks working on their cars. Let me tell all of you something. I'm just learning mechanical on my car and everything they (the professionals) really do not add up to new schools part. I'm about to sell my 1995 GMC VANDURA 5. 7L ENGINE here in Dayton, OH because I cannot find one measly video on YouTube or any other Internet how to take off an awkward EGR valve. Ridiculous right [I mean for getting rid of it. ]?
This is not what I'm beefing about?
I mad cause all these so-called professionals does not show you how to place rachet on a Delco 32627 tensioner for which does not really have no open secured catch to it! Guess what I used GENIUS? VICE GRIPS! The perfect tool.

Chow, after watching your videos on this topic I was able to determine my tensioner pulley was trashed. I tried to purchase a new one from the dealer but they could only sell me the whole pulley assembly with a much smaller pulley attached. I took option B' and took the old pulley to Napa and they were able to cross check the part number with the last four digits of the VIN and match it up with a new pulley of the same dimensions. This saved me a lot of extra cost and time. The pulley measured 102mm in case anyone needs that info. Thanks again for a huge assist!

Wow! You do an excellent job on instructional videos! I just watched this one and the other about the engine squeak and completely understand everything you said! With the right tools, I feel I can go fix the squeak myself, although not sure I could get the belt off by myself. I am probably two to 3 times your age, female and my hands hands have quite a bit of arthritis in them these days but I have done a lot of things under my own hood. Thanks a lot for making such a great easy to understand video that even a gramma like me can use!

Hi chris. I have a question about my 08 tundra 5. 7 v8. I'm doing the water pump service. All torn down I noticed power steering pulley has tiny tiny in/out movement. I've read in forums that this is normal in tundra. I'm not to sure about that. If it's not normal can I just replace pulley or is it a replace all type of thing. pulley and pump come together? Thanks chris. I ask because since I tore it all down may as well change it if it needs it.

I dont know why when you buy a new tensioner it only comes with the top bolt and not the bottom bolt, Ive got a Corsa D 1. 2 2010, I was removing my tensioner and the bottom bolt snapped! couldnt find one anywhere! When you buy a new tensioner it only comes with the top bolt. Maybe because the bottom bolt is actually part of the engine? I had to call out a mobile mechanic

Hello! My serpentine belt slid off the idler/tensioner when I started my car, so we thought it might have been over-stretched and replaced it. However, the new belt started sliding off the idler as well. Before I go out and buy the idler, what would you suggest to do? Car is a daewoo kalos 2004 - same serpentine belt set up as the Chevy aveo 2006.

Hi Chris, Great video! Could you please do a video of replacing the tensioner pulley of a 03 Mitsubishi Galant? The space is very tight on this car. The Belt Tensioner Tool can't reach the tensioner pulley to release the tension. If you can do a video to show how to deal with such tight space, it would be very helpful. Thank you anyway!

So I've been told I need to replace the whole tensioner pulley. How does one know whether to do this or just replace the wheel as in the video. My belt squeals but it also rides up on the rim of the pulley wheel causing it to shred or come off.

Welp. Didnt know why my vehicle was squeaking so I brought it in to mechanic. Having easily replaced a dryer belt a few years ago, I knew as soon as the mechanic said theres a pulley issue that I just cost myself 150 extra.
