There is no more popular toy in the automotive world than Hot Wheels. Most of us at Donut were introduced to cars through Hot Wheels, and most still collect them to this day. Much like us there are millions of people that are obsessed with Hot Wheels and have incredible collections. How exactly did Mattel create the biggest selling toy in the world? How did it best companies like Matchbox? And how did a failed guitar design save Hot Wheels from losing to the competition? We have a new channel WheelHouse answers all the questions about the automotive and motorcycle world you never thought to ask. Nolan Sykes looks at the history, sociology and psychology behind the cars and bikes you love, and the features you might overlook. Ajax_Stormwing: My flag was called Maelstrom. It's been well loved, and the violent shade of puke is starting to chip along the edges, but that was the best car ever. I wound up acquiring two more half and so by accident. In my imagination, the side skirts were wingtips for retractable wings, and the engine was a W-block straddling a turbojet engine. Underneath the twin scoops were two pairs of Browning. 50cal machine guns, one pair per scoop. Somehow, the forward skirts were shield emitters.

Holy crap. we had a full set of the Sweet 16 in the toy box at my Grandma's house Heavily played with, but still. I wonder what they'd be worth today in average after 13 grandkids played with them from 1972-1991 condition. lolAnd we had several sets of orange track and the speedblaster gas stations. man. good times, good times.

My first memory ever was getting a Hot Wheels Tune-up Tower 3-level garage for my 4th birthday in 1970 (Yeah, I'm old whatever) It had a dyno setup garage on the 3rd floor, and the 2nd floor was a parking garage. It connected to a track oval and even had a elevator. Aw man, it was my favorite Hot Wheels toy for years

When I was in first grade I was attacked by a pitbull he bit my left hand in between my middle and ring finger it required 11 stitches and permanent nerve damage but it was worth it because I got a dope hot wheels semi truck that held like 12 cars it was honestly one of my most cherished toys as a kid

My favorite hot wheels was a Chevrolet K10 with the rubber knobby tires that you could take off. which I did, and replaced with the rubber hot rod tires. ( the hot rods with the adjustable ride hight in the rear)Unfortunately it sacrificed two hot rods to achieve. But in my mind it looked sooo cool

Do you know the pain when there are empty Hot Wheels cards in the back of the peg? Or maybe empty mystery packs mixed in with the unopened ones? Or the employees that never restock the Matchbox section? Or when all of the licensed Hot Wheels are gone and there are only fictional ones left?

I work for a major automobile manufacturer in a quality testing facility. A lot of engineers work there. Throughout the offices many have their Hot Wheels collections displayed on their desks or pin boards. When I first started my job there and I saw this I knew that I was with my kind.

Hot Wheels is missing a huge opportunity in Argentina to recreate the iconic cars in here like the IKA Torino, Dodge GTX, Renault Fuego, Ford Falcon Sprint, Chevrolet Chevy, Dodge 1500 GT 100, Renault 12 Alpine and many more, they would sell quickly since we love this cars here.

Tanner Foust did what? He's a speed demon in a VW Beetle Although I hear he's going to be driving a Subaru now. My favorite was not a Hot Wheels, Kenner had a line of toy cars called Fast 1's and I loved my Shark Shifter, still have it, but it's looking worse for the wear.

oh damn, I love original concept hot wheels cars that look like they could be real production cars. My two favorites are the Fast Fish and the Seared Tuner. Though, I like realistic ones too, hope they will one day remake the Toyota Supra with the stock oval spoiler
