Trade Wars - What's the Worst that can Happen? WheelHouse blue shoe: The reason the USA auto industry is still here today is because of tariffs. Why do you think their trucks sell so well? Why are ford and Chrysler going to stop car production? Its because of that tax at 25%. Taxes are good in the long term. If that tax wasn't there other automakers would dominate the truck market. It took a while but today the USA auto industry is making the most advanced truck on the planet. Nobody else gave a shit about trucks until the consumer tastes changed. Now other automakers are scrambling to produce a good truck. The big three have been smart they could not compete in the short term for cars so they made big SUVs look attractive to consumers because the other automakers could not compete and had nothing like it at the time ( early 1990s SUV boom in market ) this worked out well for them and have stuck with this plan ever since. Ironically they make good cars now despite what people think. People still say things like american cars are crap and muscle cars can't turn a corner funny thing is go watch donut media video on the mustang and in the video it said ford beat BMW m3 (I think) on the nurburg ring or however you spell it. The big three suffer from a bad image when it come to cars this is partly why they don't sell well especially out side of america. So they move to trucks instead. More profitable, 25% tax, good image, and consumer taste.

I wish you would take that fixd shirt off. I bought a fixd plug because of these shows. Up to speed is my favorite thing to watch on YouTube every week, but it doesn't work on any of my vehicles. Everytime the check engine light comes on I found myself yelling at my fixd app on my phone for 15 minutes before I just drive the vehicle to the parts store where they scanned if for free. Maybe my plug broke in shipping or something, but in my opinion it's a great idea just poorly executed.

The same happened in Argentina but instead of cars, we have tariffs in everything that's imported, and foreigners cars can only be imported if they are over 30 years old or if the owner is someone coming to live here, and still has to pay insanely amounts of money just to get it road legal. Meanwhile we get cars that has no ESP in the current year. And don't make me started on things that are not even manufactured here such as electronics or chinese stuff

Tariffs suck for the consumer. If a foreign industry is doing better than you domestically MAKE A BETTER PRODUCT. The fact that a business that is thousands of miles away and sends its product by ship is doing better than you at home tells you how incompetent you are. Ford shouldve adapted and overcome in the 80s instead of crying like a baby asking for handouts. For me it just says how superior Japanese cars are (at least from that era)

Outsource manufacturing and there will be very few people to buy ANY new cars. Free trade only works when other countries are not putting tariffs on your exports. Nolan, you are great but you missed that. America has been forced into a trade war it does not want to be in. When Europe and China come to their senses all will win if not many will suffer. Free Trade is Fair Trade.

Same here in greece if you have more than 2000cc or 2. 0 car then you are going to pay a lot in taxes every year so everyone buy low cars and car guys buy civics mx5 s2000 golf s3 seat leons and bmw 320 and most of them are german also if you have big cars you pay extra taxes so big american cars are SUPER rare here only if you find ecoboost mustangs with 2. 4 motor

5: 26 - decreasing supply increases value. Nope. Decreasing supply increases cost (selling price. Value is the amount of product per cost. A really good product at low cost is a great value. A low-quality product at high cost is a bad value. So in fact, decreasing supply (which increases cost) therefore decreases value - the opposite of what is said.

Europe puts a 10% tariff on American cars while the US puts a 2. 5% tariff on European cars. How is that fair? China forces companies to give up their IP for access to their market. How is that fair? China's state-owned steel industry over produces steel and dumps it on America below cost and drives out the American steel industry. How is that fair?

US auto makers shouldnt be subsidised and they should be making good vehicles rather than having artificial boost like tarrifs, otherwise GM and Ford would go under, do people realize they have been getting millions in tax money for decades? thats why they dont bother improving thier brands they didnt need to
reply

Theres a reason Japanese cars have been dominating the American market for decades. Their cars are just simply better, and its not the American consumers fault that American cars are lackluster. Frankly, we shouldve let GM sink years ago, as Ford seems to be the only reputable American brand out there.
