Hey Doughnut, you guys really need to be doing some fact checking. Is it true that a technician can program a new key into your car? Yeah absolutely. But to do that, you need both technical training and a nationwide security clearance before you can gain access to the manufacture's database for the security codes required to program a key. This avoids the exact situation with the greasy mechanic you discribed. That statement you guys made will be creating a lot of mistrust in an industry that already has a somewhat bad image. I know it can be hard getting all the facts straight, but it's worth the extra effort Otherwise keep up making these great videos

Do car guys find these not very plausible? It sounds like those 2000's superstitious email chains, especially like the one taking over your car. It's like Tesla is working hard to automate cars but apparently it's already built in? Why was a receiver built to remotely turn on the wipers? You only need a sensor and a switch. Why did the engineers build a remote signal input? If it's though the ECU, why did they connect the wipers to the ECU? And what's the point of the TPMS sensor hack when it's easier to jump someone in a parking lot?

Goddamn, image what's gonna happen with self-driving cars. Since it's 21st century and just about everybody knows a thing or two about computers and ecu's, it's gonna get wild out there, on the road. Trust me when I say there's gonna be more crashes and accidents than ever before. Self driving isn't any safer than driving the car manually. There will ALWAYS be people who learn and understand the tech behind these kinds of technologies.

Many TPMS in newer cars calculate tire rotations via your hardwired ABS and wheel speed sensors to determine tire pressure, rather than measure and transmit direct pressure readings. Also, VW's Kessy system does not transmit continuously, only on key press, which I just verified on my bench (RF Engineer) with my '18 GTI keyfob. I might try it with an '18 Civic and see how they go about it.

So why is the consensus that only 'kids' steal cars and said 'kids' can't drive manual? Last I checked the ones coming up with this cars software are all old-to-ancient software geniuses that probably want a last trill or 2. as well as definitely grew up driving your precious theft proof munuels. if not moved on from MANUELS. Blinders people.

Saabs can lock the transmission into a gear and Mr. Bean can take off the steering. oh wait we drive modern cars that are freaking computers so never mind. Fyi: my car's infotainment only has USB/AUX and radio that's it (simple. Use your phone for GPS and I never really intended to use handsfree kits (seriously don't, enjoy driving.

Trusted mechanic. I only trust myself. Learn to work on your own cars and you'll save a fortune on labor costs, mechanics trying to RIP you off, and you can buy parts yourself cheaper than what most mechanics will charge even for the same exact part, and you will know for a fact that everything was installed correctly.

Great segment Donut Media, but i would just like to clarify that a shady mechanic probably wont have access to the obd tool to use to program keys. Even if he did, he would have to cut and program the key to work before it left his shop. You dont take info from the car then program a key later. I am an automotive locksmith.

This is a good video I work for a Chrysler dealer and we have implemented firewalls though the use of gateway modules post obd and radio to defend the vehicles from such attacks. But wifi and uconnect is a whole other game. Also you can use those frequency transmitters on garage doors as well.

I think a video going deeper into the hacking and controlling side of this discussion would be good. Theres alot of misinformation and fear mongering about that particular subject. Maybe a vid explaining how easy or hard it is and seperate myth from fact. Seems like it could be pretty cool.
