These are the 10 weirdest race cars ever created in the name of motorsport. From Le Mans, to land speed record holders, their innovative techniques were anything but normal for their time. Jake Miller: Trouble is if Formula 1 gets any faster, it becomes too dangerous. That's why they keeps squashing innovation. The only innovation left is to make cars more efficient, that is, to get the same power with less fuel or the same grip with less tire wear. So in order to keep innovation and keep cars from being uncontrollable missiles, they should say Do what you want to the car but you can only use THIS much fuel and THIS many tires per race and THIS much money for research and development to stop high-budget teams from always dominating.

They weren't just weird, they were by at least one measure all successful. The Deltawing ran at the Petit Le Mans in Road Atlanta, and because it was an experimental car, it wasn't allowed to regain laps as all the other cars were and finished five laps behind. If it had raced by the same rules, it would have won. And with the disappearance of the LMP1 category from Le Mans and the WEC series, cars like the Deltawing may return as the top level car.

10: A 6-wheel F1. I remember that there's an anime called F (yes, F but y'all did that list. 9: So the American version of the Renault Espace F1. 8: Yes, weird. 7: Yes, my favourite table, apart from James. 6: Shapes like a WW1 tank. 5: Reminds me of a Hot Wheels car known as Splittin' Image. 4: Too OP. Nerf now. 3: Did someone call this one a penis? 2: My favourite vacuum cleaner. 1: A dragster with 4 front wheels.

I love how these various racing administrations claim that it's at the forefront of Racing Technology Innovation but the moment someone actually makes something innovative to racing technology, they ban it because it's unfairI miss the old days of Formula One and GT racing when it was more about the manufacturers rather than the drivers.

I had black long wheeled base V8 Transit van, not as in good condition as in the vid. Where the pedals were and almost up to the seat you could see the road. But I must admit it was pretty awesome on acceleration. Good days. Chaperell did a racing car with 2 massive fans at the back giving it the nickname 'The Vacuum Cleaner'.

These cars being banned after winning reminds me of how the (slightly less weird) gtr was banned from bathurst after completely destroying the competition. If memory serves after it won they made it so that you weren't allowed to use all wheel drive.

TBH i think the prius race car looks really dope. Even though ALOT of people hates the pruis but Japan added steroids to the car and it looked really cool. Fight me all you want but i don't hate it or like the pruis i just think its meh.

Quick fact check on the BT46B: It wasn't banned, Bernie Ecclestone, then Team Principal of Brabham, withdrew the car from racing to keep the support of the other privateer teams, thus putting the car to bed after its single outing

Uwaaa the other team engineered a better car than we did so they should get banned. waaa. Unfair advantage my butt. Is there a sport where no teams can complain about other teams' innovations and where engineers can just go wild?
reply

Its a shame allot of these were banned. I feel if they were allowed to exist from there on automotive innovation wouldve taken a whole different route and we would see some amazing creations until eventually it plateaus again
