I don't know if I'm right but those boots look cheap, it could be the problem. They look like hard rubber while most oem look like soft rubber. If they are cheap then change them and be careful not to destroy them with screwdrivers and other sharp tools. You just need to message it in place with your hands it is durable but it can take some minutes and use some metal bands/straps like you used to shrink the o-ring and tighten it well not like crazy but so it will stay.
That should fix the problem

I think the problem was that you added grease on the seals as well. Grease goes only on where the rack and pinion meets, on the threads. Not alongside the whole shaft, not on any seal. You also should be very carefully when putting the shaft back into it's housing as to not touch the middle seal as the threads may ruin it. And i don't remember seeing you taking out the middle seal for rebuild, so. yeah. Disclaimer: i never did a rack and pinion rebuild myself. I did however watch a ton of videos on it.

Currently stuck at a similar point with my project. However I did send in my rack for the rebuild part and just did the fitment myself but ended up popping the new seals not once but 3 times now (rack has been back for rebuilds each time but the shop is now suspecting an issue somewhere else that needs to get fix as well) so bottom line car will need to go into the shop to figure it out. The joys of a project/restoration, not always fun so feeling your disappointment

Talking from multiple power steering failures on my car it's never a good idea to rebuild them yourself. One of the biggest thing that I noticed is that you did not measure the tolerances on parts after years of use. Adding new seals is only good if your actual components have the right clearance to work with them. If one of the parts is work out then the seals will leak and it will get worse like in this case.

I work with hydraulics on forklifts. A lot of times the pressure seals are directionally sensitive. If the lip of the seal is not on the pressure side of the cylinder it will not stop oil from blowing past the seal. I'm not sure how it is on the miata, and I could not tell by the video if the seals did have this directional lip on them but it's just a thought as to why it leaked after you replaced all the seals.

Didn't see how you installed but if you don't have those huge washer orings in the right grove in the rack tube on both sides of the rack when the rack moves left to right that will happen took me a hour taking it out and retrying to install to be sure, sorry bruh I know removing and installing the rack on my s13 isn't this most fun thing in the world would be pissed if this was the outcome of all that

Looks like the inner/outer bulkhead seals might have failed. All that power steering fluid being pushed into both boots at the piston-rod ends might mean that either the seals were dry, installed possibly backward (if they're directional; sometimes they're bushings, and/or have chirality (L vs R) and were swapped. Watching a few times, I can't tell, but that'd be where I'd start looking first.

Only thing I can think of that you may have done wrong is install a seal and it rolled up and you didn t notice. But judging from the bulging boots I d say you most likely put the boots on the wrong sides or on backwards or something. But I ve only helped someone rebuild a power steering rack once and it was like 3 years ago and his power steering basically exploded a week later so lmao.

Zack, I'm glad you showed the Hi and Lo of this alternative. I was so cringing at start up. But alas the Teflon seal and what ever other seals were fails. But as some have said, failure is a lesson for the future. As far as I can see, of time is money, than you have already spent more than the reman rack would have cost. But, that would have been a short and less dramatic ep. Thanks Zack!
