I actually like both experiences. Raw exhaust sounds of a 5, V6, V8, V10 or V12 are often memorable. I also can enjoy the silent running of EVs through the country side. Noisy cars at night are annoying, and often border juvenile delinquency. On the flip side of the equation, on a bright sunny Saturday or evening cruising the boulevard in a EV is just lame. EVs just lack personality and suppress any egos along with its noise cancellation tech. I'll take both experiences. Hold the artificial enhancement. I'm not one dimensional.

I'm pretty torn about this issue. On one hand, the sound the car makes is an essential source of information. It lets me know when to shift without looking down at the tachometer, it helps to give the feeling of how fast I'm going, and it's an indicator if something's wrong with my engine. On the other hand, I also want to be able to sneak in and out of the house unheard. And driving around the neighborhood at night knowing that you won't disturb children's precious sleep is a nice feeling.

that is why im still happy to announce that AMG are proud of the fact, they use nothing like that and even standard Benz cars too. i love M series cars, but when i heard that from the M5, when it was released, my admiration vanished, FAST pity its going that way, noise laws etc play a part in those systems too.

My 2013 Focus ST has a sound symposer thats actually super cool. Basically a tube with a valve that goes into the firewall that lets engine sound in when you get on the gas. Its ridiculous but its so satisfying. Edit: Wrote that comment before he mentioned it by name. Oops.

Homosapiens are weired, while technology allow quieter engines, they fake noises. Nature itself is not noisy. Caremakers and automotive engineers are ready to do anything for money, even simulating black smoke from electric cars: that's nonsense.

I'm ok with physical chambers into the cabin and even the computer tweaking the engine to produce a better exhaust note, but definitely hate any kind of electronically 'reproduced' sound from speakers or something foreign to the physical car.

My dad doesn't want to use his acura tlx Aspec in manual because he can't hear the sound of the engine therefore he needs to check the rpm gage instead of looking anywhere and just listen to the engine sound and know the rpm by it's tone

I took a survey after I bought my car. They asked how I liked the door sound, if I would have been interested in a CVT, and how I felt about the smoothness of the transmission. I need to see if my car makes fake/augmented sounds now

My 11 Charger R/Ts alarm system activation notification sound can be heard several houses away. My wifes 18 Pilot throws out a dainty beep thats always bugged me. Its weird that I really care. Ill take the Charger s any day.

I think this is kind of lame, cars shouldn't need a speaker amplifying the sound. It's a bit cheesy, don't you think? It's kind of like shoving a sock in the crotch area of your underwear when you take a selfie for a girl: P
