Weird growing up around NC. Didn't even realize how intensely popular this guy was until I saw him in Cars as a little boy. I went to level cross elementary school. Petty museum literally walking distance from my house now. My mother had met him and his wife multiple times and I've met him as well. Really a legend.

When he was winning all those races in the early years of Nascar, he was the only one with a big big sponsor, and had different cars for different tracks, and most drivers didn't run the whole season(no money no sponsor. Nascar was really different in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s.

Actually Plymouth made the superbird to get Richard petty back to there team. Also I have a friend who owns one of the 2 superbirds that Richard petty drove. He was offered over 8 million dollars and still wont sell it.
