10 Classic Cars They NEED to Bring Back
video description
They should co-develop the next Elise and sell a version of it as an MR2, like Toyota did with BMW and the Supra. It d be a mutually-beneficially arrangement. No more of that smart airbag nonsense that killed the Elise for our market: Lotus would be able to split the costs on the car, and gain access to Toyota s extensive supplier networks and parts catalog. In return, instead of having to design a new MR2 from scratch, Toyota would be getting one that benefits from Lotus s decades of experience with sports cars.
The only real obstacle I can see is pricing. The Supra/Z4 arrangement works because the Supra has always been a bit pricy (and even if it weren t before, people are willing to pay that price now) and the Z-series has never been that expensive compared to many of BMW s other models. The two companies are able to sell their own version of the car for about the same price. That s not really the case with the MR2 vs the Elise. In 2005, you could buy an MR-S for 25K (or 33K adjusted for inflation, or an Elise for 40K ( 53K adjusted for inflation. That was a big enough gap, but the Elise started at 52K (nearly 60K adjusted for inflation) the last time it was sold here, in 2011. Toyota would probably need to either sell the MR2 for WAY more than they have in the past, or find ways to cut costs and differentiate it enough from the Lotus version for Lotus to be able to sell their version at the price that they want.

I love the Samurai/Jimny, but the current Jimny has the same problem that it did when they were selling the second gens here: that engine is too small.
I don t mean that it s underpowered in the same way that the Toyota 86 is, I mean that it s so small that you d probably have trouble keeping up with traffic at highway speeds. Ever driven an old Beetle? The engine in most Beetles sold between 1961 and 1971 (the 1500cc) is bigger than the LARGEST engine available in the Jimny (1462cc. People swap old VW diesels into these things for a reason.
Assuming you could even get it past our draconian emissions and safety standards, you d need to give a new American-market Samurai a bigger engine for it to stand a snowball s chance in Hell. Suzuki definitely has bigger engines in their catalog, but the question is whether or not they d fit in that tiny bay.

Toyota will definitely receive extreme flak from the car community if they bring back the mr2 as hybrid or electric since most of the community hates hybrid and electric.
Although if they do it right they can be pioneers of sporty Electrics/hybrids that are within reach by most consumers.
For me all they have to do is don't make it a hybrid like the Porsche 918 and not a hybrid like a prius
Also dont make it futuristic it usually just looks weird, they can always take the old design and modernize it like what ford did with the mustang.

There's Australian cars that need to be brought back too. Including Torana. Large sedan muscle, in a small sedan body.
The Holden HZ ute, Indentical not a single thing to change.
1980 Escort a more popular shape in AU. With a effortless power to weight & perfect handling suspension.
Toyota LandCruiser TROOP CARRIER, but the much cheaper entry level. You can fit out yourself.

I just dislike when car companies bring cars back merely in name, but the car doesn t resemble the classic in looks, or spirit; the companies are profiting from the name.
Examples: LandRover Defender, Land Cruiser (I know they are capable, but now a luxury vehicle, Mustang SUV.
I d like to see a list of cars people think have been brought back in name, but not in spirit.

2 cars I feel should have been on this list. 1 the 3000 GT VR4 and it needs to have all wheel drive, all wheel steering, and active arrow. 2 the RX 7 (not the 8 it sucked and gets nothing) the human race put a man on the moon in 1969 we should be able to figure out how to make a F_CKING apex seal and an oiling system that will pass emissions on a swirling dorito!

We all NEED a two door off road unit that is bare bones and inexpensive. My personally fantasy would be if Jeep came back with the Comanche and had 4x4 options for under 25k. Maybe after all that there could be room for a Dakota/ little red express roadster in dodges line up

well a lot of these cars exist as mock ups, i've worked on a bunch of cool concepts. but they are killed by those financial greedy people that only look at numbers. and slowly they kill the brand identity.
