My grandfather had a 56' Porsche Speedster in the garage. Bought it in 60' for 1k from a guy who pulled the engine and some other stuff for reasons that I don't know. He had the engine, chassis. everything. just needed some body work and to put it all together. It was all original paint and number matching About 25 911's and a number of other Porsche's shared the space with it, but the speedster was never put back together. Either way, he sold it a couple years back for an insane profit. Enough to buy a new GT3, turbo and macaan with extra to spare. As a little kid I'd sit in the speedster, behind the wheel, dreaming of throwing it through turns and putting it through it's pace. It certainly wasn't the nicest car in the garage and it wasn't the prettiest but it had an aura about it. I had no idea of it's value. It wasn't until that car left the family that I realized I'd probably never see it again.

You actually got some of the facts wrong with a couple of the story. The first one is the guy who bought the Shelby from Phil Spector didnt have his daughter store the car. He gave it to her and years of turning people away she finally sold the car before she went and killed herself leaving all the money to her mom. The second thing that was wrong was the original owner of the Mira didnt have it stolen. Him and his wife took it out on their anniversary to go to dinner and he didnt trust the valet so he parked it on the street nearby and when they came back it was gone. That was a popular theory for a while that he had the car stolen because he couldnt afford the payments cause he didnt make much money as a plumber but as it turned out his business was pretty successful and he didnt have any problems affording the car.

The SL story wasn't the coolest. The coolest was the one that was in Cuba. There's one 300SL over there that was locked in a barn before Castro and Guevara's forces overran Havana and it was rumoured to been owned by a plantation boss before he too fled. The car was never found and was locked in the barn till found 2 years ago. It was in silver and due to the humidity, it was in very rough shape but the engine but the engine was still fine except chewed up electrics and holed exterior. It is now under restoration by some Cubans and news of how the progress is isn't known yet but as I remembered about it, it was last mentioned in the Discovery documentary about the life of these retro cars in Cuba called 'Cuban Cars or something.

MotorTrend had a short series called AutoBiographies, where two car geeks research and find out all sorts of crazy stuff and come up with theories about how famous car mysteries transpired. They do one on the Buried Ferrari Dino, and they actually reach out to the son of the dude who originally bought the car. Lots of information in that video that made me doubt that he was involved in the robbery. As always, great content guys

I found a 72 duster demon sitting in a guys back yard & talked him into selling it but my dad would not lend me the money I was a young high school kid then. so one of my friends bought it for super cheap because the paint was all faded. he fixed up back to original condition drove it for a couple of years then sold it making a ton of cash. I always remind my dad about that.

So the officers first thought was a dead body in a car? An thankfully no dead body Cops man. He was HOPING for a dead body for HIS CAREER. Bet the detective could not articulate a REASON for suspecting a dead body other then the fact a car is buried. Police WANT murder mystery cases, it literally puts them on easy street wise.

There's a story of another 300SL that was found hanging on a tree in Sumatera, and later on bought by Indonesian 3rd president who's a very big fan of Mercedes Benz. Once upon a time, he wanted to daily drive his SL so he swapped some parts to a 300CE W124 and it seems to be the only 300SL that's available legally in Indonesia.

Not sure if this has been said yet, it if it needs to be, I know it's just an add, but Current is a pretty shady bank and doesn't have the best track record, I know it's great that they're sponsoring this but hopefully no one actually signs up, it's a nightmare. Anyways, awesome video as always
