I see a truck towing a camper and I think They intend to go far on vacation for several days at a time and what is one of the things someone like that would want? A truck that can accomplish that with minimal range anxiety. So to me that immediately eliminates anything electric, especially when time at a charge station takes a lot longer than pulling up to a pump and filling the tank. So what would they go for? Preferably a diesel powered truck unless they feel uncomfortable with maintaining a diesel, in which case a gas powered truck will do. Electric truck brands (and cars too for this matter) will need to get recharge times from 25% to 100% down to maybe 10 minutes, and recharge frequency while towing down to something similar to what you'd see in a gas powered truck, so roughly every 200-300 miles. If someone could pull that off while sacrificing something like acceleration speed, I think they'd have the market in their hands and other manufacturers would follow suit, and THEN we could really say electric cars are taking over.

The ability to power your home in an outage. I bet Elon is PISSED his R&D team didn't hatch that idea.
I can envision the press ad for the new _Lightning. _ A storm is battering upscale suburbia. It's an energetic, yet dark and moody scene. The area is suffering a power outage. Every house in view (6 or 7 residences) is in total darkness. all, except one. And on that home's drive is a _Ford Lightning, _ ensuring that house remains aglow, and its residents, warm and safe. The others however appear cold, miserable and lifeless. Hail the size of golf balls pummels anything exposed, cracking roof tiles, breaking tree branches, damaging every other vehicle in view - most prominently their windshields and windows. They are getting destroyed! Because on every other drive is a _Cybertruck! _
The _Lightening. _ Twice the truck, half the price!

Rv trailers with either a mini powertrain that will work in tandem with your Truck's electric motors to extend range, or Rv trailers with battery banks large enough to double the range or charge your truck when you're off grid. Once they get that going, I'm onboard. I don't want to be worried and staring at my battery gauge when I take the family and trailer out to the national forest for some off grid camping. Getting to your campsite once you leave the paved roads can be a long slow slog, and I don't want to be stuck out in the middle of nowhere with a dead truck I can't put jumpers to. I predict this is coming. Maybe even a towable RV designed by Ford itself.

I love it, BUT it needs a bigger battery option or else it will be useless for towing. Sure, you can tow 10K lbs, 150miles at a time with 40 minute recharges. well that's not gonna work for many people. Also, it will be available next spring, but what does that mean, how many are they going to make per year? One other thing, TESLA will be seen as the turning point for EVs in future hindsight, but if FORD gets into mass production of EVs in the next wave (with VW, Korean and Chinese brands, it's a big deal.

About the cost: the pros that buy their F150 for work do take into account the full cost of ownership (and the truck is a tax expense so the initial cost is not as important as for regular buyers. When they will look at the cost of fuel and maintenance, the electric F150 could be quite pricey compared to the gas one and still be a very compelling proposition.

Agreed. Normal truck buyers aren't going to buy for green-ness. they are going to buy for utility. EVs are ultimately no more green than traditional gas, and possibly less so. But EV done right can be extremely convenient. The city work truck (contractors, plumbers, etc) is a perfect fit for this concept.

Wait. Wait. Wait. I have a solution. Get this. We make a petrol generator that fits perfectly in the front trunk area. Then we put the tank for it at the back. So when you run out of electricity, you turn on the gen & it charges your truck. Remove the battery packs to reduce weight.

My truck needs are a minimum 6, 500 pound payload dully and 15, 000 pound towing with at least 25, 000 pound GCWR for a truck camper and 2 car trailer on trips from Houston to Miami and Houston to San Diego. Don't think electric trucks are going to get there in my lifetime.

Wow just think what the range would be at 5 degrees with the heater, defrost and studded snow tires. Bet at 150 miles be looking for a 20 hour recharge. Towing a 7000 pound trailer slight head wind maybe 75-100 miles. Must be a lifestyle truck.
