Doing This Will Destroy Your Cars Engine #04 Anglo Saxon: I nearly destroyed my engine and transmission last week. I changed the engine oil in my recently acquired Corolla. I have done this many, many times in lots of cars. Anyway, I checked the level and it was like, double. It flummoxed me. I checked and checked and checked. I drove it up and down (about 200m) and checked again. And then I thought I had better drain some out - maybe I had put too much it. Nope - I spotted my mistake. I had drained the transmission and filled the engine Luckily - all OK. But OMG if I had not checked the level

I had a dishonest Manager from a Firestone Auto Care center tell me that too much oil would not harm my vehicle. This manager thought that I knew nothing about this, until I showed him printed out documents from an ASE technician online that explained with pictures what happens when too much oil is put into the car. The manager embarrassed, refused to read through my proof of disproving his ridiculous information and asked me to leave. I called and sent Firestone all of this information and they assigned a case manager to my concern and basically questioned me to death to the point, that I gave up since they would not budge in believing me that that their Auto care center did dishonest work and the manager lied to me. It was very disheartening. Scotty is telling the truth here, even though it causes some PTSD in me about this situation.

I just pour the oil until it reaches the full mark. throw the cap back on and just cruise for about 10 minutes. check the oil again the next morning while engine has sat over night and as a rule it will be about 1/8 of an inch from the full mark. no big deal. thats just because it filled all the empty space from the cruise I took the night before so I just top it off and I will check the oil before turning it on in the early morning and again before leaving work and when you see the oil level remains right at the full mark then youre good. . there is a benefit to being VERY anal at having fluids at the FULL mark regardless of what the fluid is. I do this with brake fluid. clutch fluid ( if separate from brake reservoir ). coolant. power steering. EVERYTHING. they are there for a reason people. so KEEP IT THERE

One time, I needed a quick oil change. Went to the quick lube in town. 10 minutes later, done. Paid, drove out and guess what. My engine was throwing blue smoke out like crazy. Went back and they said theyd done nothing wrong. I pushed them into dropping g the oil out and putting in new. Stillsmoking. They suggested I drive it up the road and see if it clears up. After about 6 or 8 miles it was runing fairly clean. went back to the shop. They couldnt explain what they had done wrong. my take is this. Two guys do the change. One on top. One in the pit who changes the filter and drops the oil. I think he forgot to drain the oil Then what. An overfill situation. Smoke smoke smoke. No more quick lubes for me Car is still runing good. If you have the knowledge a comment would be great

Overfilling a diesel engine will cause engine run away because the oil will seep past the rings and combust. Since diesel is oil based a diesel engine can run off oil albeit poorly. When run away happens will run off the oil instead and since there is no governor for the oil it will run until the oil is all consumed. You wont be able to shut the engine off unless you clog the air intake. If you arent prepared for this, the engine will blow up. So dont overfill diesel engines with oil.

I live in the U. K. and I have a 04 Honda Civic 1. 6L. Ive noticed some vibration in the gas pedal now I have a check engine light on. amber color I believe. When I bought it I guess the a. c. didnt work so they rerouted the belt. One more problems Id that its difficult to turn the wheel sometimes. i lie the other problem is the suspension makes alot of noise going over a bump. if I dont have alot of money what should I focus on and do you think I have a transmission issue?

I accidentally added too much oil once to a Chevy G20 van with a small block V-8. It was night, I was in a parking lot and checked the oil. It was so clean I didnt see it on the dip stick & nothing appeared to come off when I wiped the the end stick with a napkin. I ended up adding a quart or 2 over and eventually it oozed out and down, gumming up destroying the starter motor.

The problem to change oil by yourself issss; where to dispose the old oil? I live in Japan, here we pay about 5 for the service plus the oil, and no tricks from the shops, but when come to fix something, its abusive expensive, cause they want to change the whole thing for a new one, example, one small part its broken, so. they change the whole set than just a part of it.

My nephew got his oil changed and went to check his oil and said that they didnt put any oil in it (bc it was so clear he didnt see it on the dipstick) so he put three more quarts of oil in it. Hes lucky that I was there when he happened to be talking about it. I went out there and checked the oil and was so high that if would have drove it it would have ruined it.
