OK, Ill give the best advice that should have been given here for this title. Dont switch an old car that has used conventional motor oil to a synthetic motor oil, of which there are many brands with Mobil 1 being just one of them. I switched two news cars over to Mobil 1 Synthetic and have used it for years, but I just bought 6, 5 quart jugs of NAPA/(Valvoline) Full Synthetic oil because it was on sale for 16. 99 as where I normally pay 22. 99 on sale at the department store for Mobil 1. Thats a 1. 20 per qt. savings and about 5 per oil change savings. There is an Amsoil test with several testing charts that shows Valvoline synthetic being very comparable and in some tests superior to (Mobil 1 Extended Performance 26. 99) as where Ive used plain Mobil 1. Probably not bad advice to stick with one brand, but more important is to use the recommended oil weight and dont switch between synthetic and non-synthetic.

I call bull crap on not mixing manufacturers oils I call bull crap Im not mixing the weight of oils you can do whatever you want does it work exactly the way they know but who cares its going to make such a small difference it really doesnt matter its like with motorcycle tires or any tire the manufacturer says not to mix brands heck I have different brands on my front and the rear always have its just that theyve never been tested by the other manufacturers why would you why would you bother to mix Pennzoil with mobile one to see what it does to an engine its an expensive process it and it doesnt matter to mobile one

People I interact with on a daily basis go on and on about Chrysler product being the best thing on the market and everything else not so good and 4 years I followed their advice and had nothing but problems until I switched back to GM and Ford products and Ive had nothing but good luck and Im talkin about 1, 500 cars being extremely reliable in the Chevy and Ford families yet the Chrysler product I was buying was in the three to 5, 000 range and they spent more time in the shop than they did at home

5. 0 Coyote is totally redesigned. Variable Double Cam Timing 24 valve and Two fuel injectors per piston. It is not the same 5. 0 of old. It has many reports of engine knock at bottom end after only 2, 000 miles of use. When engine is pulled apart for inspection, the source of noise is not so apparent. Ford Dealerships only put in 8 quarts of oil when the engine requires 10 Many nightmare stories of underlubricated engine failures have come out from the Mustang side

They used to say that different brands used different additives and when you mixed different brands of oil the additives might not be comparable and the incompatibility could lead to seal damage. I dont know how true that was but when I was a kid I used all kinds of different oils in my old 1981 Datsun but the 13 year old car with 218, 000 miles on it still never leaked oil. Any American car from the early 1980s would have leaked oil no matter what

Im a retired ASE Master Tech and I usually agree with Mr Scotty except when it comes to his preference for Castrol oil. The American Petroleum Institute actually had to change their rules on the number of times an oil can be submitted because Castrol was literally adding a drop of additive and resubmitting a dozen times until they finally had enough to pass. The APIs Castrol rule states that a refiner only gets a few strikes and then theyre out.

Scotty, The dealer changed the vtc actuator to my 2012 Crv. I noticed that after that fix, the crv started burning oil, about 1quarter between oil changes, about every 6k miles. The car has 140k miles, synthetic oil since new, PCV is new too. Is that oil burning related to the vtc change. I wonder what the dealer did to my car, since it was ok before the change.
