While vacationing in the bay area in early spring of 2012, I had the fortune of running into MUNI Streetcar _marcus_i: It really is and despite all the great improvements MUNI is doing to its system (Central Subway: linking downtown with Chinatown and North Beach and Geary Blvd BRT modeled after Bogota's and Curitiba, Brazil's systems to link the north and western parts of the City to Downtown, the streetcars are truly the best improvement. History and efficiency, in terms of moving up and down the piers section of the City. I really do wish more cities brought back their historical transit. Also, nice video.

You're really fortunate that San Francisco decided to bring back the streetcars! This system is a fantastic example of public transportation from another era. And MUNI has proven that is is quite possible and practical to have a historic streetcar system that is very successful. I wish that more cities would follow in San Francisco's footsteps.

I live here and whenever I have people out of town visiting, I usually take them to the piers (may favorite place in the City) and would often wait at the ferry building just so I could board everyone on these streetcars. Riding on a bus or light rail is no fun, these streetcars are SF history!

You have a really neat system up there. Arguably one of the best in the country. I like that San Francisco has enough sense of history to preserve these historic streetcars and keep them running in regular service.

I first saw one of these in -Dirty Harry-, the scene where Scorpio tells Harry to -Take the cablecar. -; he meant -take the muni-. There was a poster on the side saying -Elect Mark FINNEGAN! City Manager- Did Finnegan win?

They have many interesting cars from around the world. I like that one too, though I have never seen it run in person. It would be nice if they could get a bunch of those older cars running again.

Hahaha. The F-Line has become so popular that they often do not have enough PCC cars to fill the service requirements, so the short buses fill in.

I'm sorry, but what does this have to do with the video? Let's try to keep politics out of places it doesn't belong, thanks.
reply

San Francisco does not use the City Manager system, so that was just a movie prop. The Mayor holds most executive power.
