Amtrak Cascades NPCU 90230, previously Amtrak F40PH 230, leads Pacific Surfliner train 583 out of San Diego with a mix of older low level cars and F59PHI 464 in August of 2011. The consist is somewhat resemblant of an Amtrak San Diegan train from the late 1990's, especially considering that as an F40, 230 was based out of Los Angeles and was a regular guest on the San Diegans. This video was previously uploaded under the same title, but I removed some of the beginning of the video where nothing was happening via the YouTube video editor

That is awesome. I rode this train back in August of 2011 but instead we had NPCU 90208 and F59 452. I miss the San Diegan and I actually prefer this consist over the Superliner cars. Also miss those F40s but hey the F59s are better than the GEs, in m opinion.

Nice video! She was trailing on Amtrak #91 in Florida last Tuesday, I was so shocked I chased it for almost 180 miles! It was a rare must see moment, and was the only person to have caught it on Amtrak 91!

It has more to do with the fact that A. the horn on 90230 now runs at half air pressure due to it being -too loud- and B. it is a cabbage to there are no engine sounds to muffle the sound of the bell.

I have to agree, I think it is highly unlikely that 90230 is the thing you saw, seeing that it hasn't left California in nearly a year now.

It has been moved to the Pacific Surfliner equipment pool and has been running here since July of 2011. Quite a long way from home.

It was. Me and my buddy chased it for a long time, almost 180 miles. I have never seen a F40PH-NPCU before. It was really neat!
