Last day of operation: Sunday September 27, 2015 Since 2003, the San Pedro Pacific Electric Red Car Trolley has been an icon of the waterfront, carrying thousands of visitors yearly. Now, the city of Los Angeles is shutting down the 1. 5 mile long rail line, most likely forever, as a new redevelopment project will obliterate the old right of way as a street is relocated. History may repeat itself as the Pacific Electric once again fades into the past. In this video, you will follow the Red Car one last time on a round trip from one end of the line to the other and return. Featured is car 1058, the only original Pacific Electric car that runs on this line

Our group at the Western Railway Museum in Suisun City is very interested in acquiring one of the replica cars used on this line, if operation is in fact to be discontinued. I would hate to have those cars leave before the line has a chance to reopen. Who knows, maybe a wave of public support will sway the city to reroute the trolley line as planned, but if worse comes to worse, these cars will find a good home.

Great video, too bad they have to shut down the line, it will be missed. At least I got a video of it before it's closure (back in February. If you want to see it I believe it's called -Pacific Electric - 2/2015. - I'll try to get a video of it today if I can, otherwise that's the one and only video of Pacific Electric you'll probably ever see.

Too bad to see it go, but ports are always expanding and progressing. Hopefully another part of public transit will take it's place to service the people of Los Angeles. Where I live on the East Coast of Canada they took the trolleys out just after the Second World War.

hey guys I heard that sometime in the near future Metro will add 2 lines one from Long Beach to San Pedro and the other from L. A. to San Pedro via the 110fwy, does anyone in here knows of such plans? this I heard from a Metro blue line conductor

Shameful and terrible to get rid of history. Isn't there a law in CA that saves historic sites and pieces like in other states? Also the PE cars would work great on Laurel line as PE and the LW&V had the same equipment for the most part.

Why did they sell heritage to some property developers; surely that is morally wrong- I take it they haven't given the railway a new place/compensation. I would've loved to see it if I ever went to 'Murica

I hope that the trolley is relocated to the Orange Empire Railway Museum where it can join the ranks of the other Pacific Electric trolleys that are still in operational and running order over there.

Yet another win for retail development. I would figure a trolley like this would be a perfect mode of transportation for a developed area. Thanks for sharing Mike!
