Climb aboard Amtrak's Coast Starlight for a trip through some of the most spectacular scenery in the western United States. We'll follow the train on its 1, 377 mile long journey from Los Angeles, California to Seattle, Washington along the Pacific Ocean, through river valleys, and up over forested mountain ranges. Along the way, we'll make a few brief side trips to some notable landmarks. The Coast Starlight is one of Amtrak's premiere long distance passenger trains and this video gives you just about the most complete coverage of the train you can find anywhere. Don't miss your ticket for the Coast Starlight!

I consider this a pretty bad video because it NEVER SHOWS THE SCENERY SHOT FROM THE INSIDE OF THE TRAIN! My wife and I both got SICK of hearing the damned train whistle or horn! It seems Mike went out of his way to ruin our hearing by only recording video of a train coming into a town or crossing a road so it was sure that have that damned loud train whistle blasting away.
But, the worst part was we wanted to see what kinds of scenery we would see if we took the train, and he never showed a shot out the window from inside the train, nor during any of the long stretches between cities, they travel through or stop in.
It did NOT IN ANY WAY give you the feel of the train as you would get it from riding it, nor show the spectacular views nor the cliffs you might look over!

You will need to make a new video in this one or an update.
There have not been parlor cars since circa 2018. Also, the route no longer travels around Steilacoom and Point Defiance. It is now back on the Sounder (ex-Puget Sound and PACIFIC Railway) Lakewood Sub through Dupont, Lakewood, and South Tacoma before stopping at Tacoma Dome Station then rejoin BNSF Seattle Sub at Reservation Junction.
Also, a section of track between just south of Tamien (CP LICK) and Santa Clara Junction is not owned by UP, but rather Caltrain (the San Francisco Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board, also known as JPBX.

Thanks for the time and efforts to taking shots from different and beautiful points. It must have taken you a very long time to complete. I'm wondering whether you managed to get on this train through the entire length just to feel it inside. All in all, it has been a wonderful experience watching this video.

Thank You for highlighting one of our own trains.
As a So Cal native, I am more inclined to know about trains in our country as against trains in foreign lands.
Why would I venture to other countries when there is so much to see and enjoy right at home in USA!

Love this video. Took the California Zephyr from Chicago to San Francisco. I'm now hooked on trains. Planning to travel on the Texas Eagle from Chicago to Los Angeles. Then the Coast Starlight to Seattle.
Trains are much more enjoyable than any cruise

Was wondering why there's no north/south passenger rail service for Medford, Oregon. Looks like, through the mountains on the south side, there's all kinds of tunnels that would raise problems/issues. Anybody else ever wonder railing in and out of Medford?

Awesome documentary explaining about the Amtrak Coast Starlight route between Seattle and Los Angeles. After watching this makes me want to do a round trip on Amtrak Coast Starlight trains #11 and #14 more then ever to see all the wonderful sights.

Came here by watching some of the US railroad sytem. Thank you very much for a very well documented video and further would like to express my appreciation for the huge amount of time and travel this film includes. Excellent job.

Jiant Double Decker Trains are Very Lucrative, Thrilling, Amazing and Enjoyable. I have a dream to travel over But! I remember the Poetry: Faster than Faryes - Faster than Witches. Bridges and Houses, Hedges and Ditches.

Beautiful scenery. Brings back memories from when I traveled the coast from Riverside to LA to Monterey to Doris to Yakima, WA back in the day. But yes, I too wish you would have shown some of it from inside the train.
