Located in Genesee Township, just outside Flint, Michigan, the Huckleberry Railroad operates steam tourist trains along a small section of restored railroad right of way that was once part of the Pere Marquette Railroad. The railroad and neighboring Crossroads Village are both operated by the Genesee County Parks Department. Two steam locomotives call the railroad home. Alaska Railroad number 152 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in June of 1920 as a 4-6-0 wheel arrangement and Denver and Rio Grande Western 464 was built in 1903 by the Baldwin Locomotive works as a K-27 type 2-8-2 locomotive. In January of 2019, a special photography session was held at the railroad by Lerro Productions to capture images of both locomotives pulling trains of passenger cars over the railroad. 464 was scheduled to be pulled from service for planned boiler work that year, so this was to be the last opportunity to see both locomotives steamed up together for quite some time. While there was surprisingly no snow on the ground, the sun was out and the temperatures were plenty cold enough to produce some fantastic steam clouds. We-ll watch the 152 and the 464 running solo before being used together on a special double headed train in the fading light

The trestle in several shots and at 15: 57 is the caps and stringers from what was called the -ZOO TRESTLE- when I was there between 1979 and 1983. It was a ballasted deck trestle when I was there. Thankfully they did not include the caboose on any of those trains. I did not notice Car No. 8 in the group but it is a Kimball Car Co. car from about 1877 or so from the Northwestern Pacific and the OR&N out of Reno, Nevada before that line was standard-gauged. Car No. 40 was originally a standard gauge car; there are two sets of bolsters under it. Car No. 260 was built new by the Burnham shops for the Rio Grande Southern with used trucks and the only new car they ever had. Cars 306 & 320 were from the Antonito to Santa Fe line. Car No. 316 was added after I left. Car No. 100 was a business car from the Zacataos RR in Mexico.

This is my home state-s staple aside from the Great Lakes everyone who-s ever been a kid and lived in genesee county has spent at least most of their childhood at this place primarily for the trains which are the main attraction obviously you got these steamers decorated for Halloween and Christmas and you got the diesel one which is the primary train that-s run as the steam engines only run on Saturday and Sunday between Labor Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend

Excellent Mike. Loved your comments. On video you've caught the greatness of this train. I owe my greater interest in rail, especially steam - to a recently deceased friend, Gene. I needed to credit him. He loved steam engines the absolute best. This train is such a majestic beauty, especially with two locomotives with billowing steam! They're like art!

They are both little monsters. Very nicely proportioned for narrow gauge, great steam whistles and engineers who know how to play 'em. Love the ghostly wail of properly maintained steam whistles which seem to sound better in cold, crisp air. Are the cars original or reproductions? Very professional video. Thanks.

I love both 152 and 464. Last time I saw them both was in the 2019 photo charter. I hope the huckleberry railroad will be operating this but we just have to see. Also thanks for uploading this. Also another railroad in Michigan the little river railroad. One day you should go there.

i just love the 464 it is an amazing engine with a great history one fact about it at crossroads is it is so heavy that it has actually bent the rails if you have ever been to crossroads you know the section of track in question

Used to go there all the time for day out with Thomas and Halloween trick or treating only living about 35 miles out from there, i miss it! I want to go back sometime and check out the Christmas lights.

Awesome video! I want to check out that place. The one place you need to check out is the St Louis Iron Mountain & Southern Railroad in Jackson, MO!

Yknow, once the border reopens, you should head to British Columbia to film trains there. We-ve got great railroads and beautiful views.

Superb motion photography: the vestiges of a bygone era. Some say that parts of it may return as resource depletion gets worse.
