When Talking to Aliens Is Your Religion Op-Docs

In the mid-1950s, an English taxi driver named George King claimed that he had received a directive from outer space. The dispatch spurred him to establish the Aetherius Society, a religious group that believes communicating and working with aliens will better humanity. Though unconventional, the group s practices aren t dangerous or hateful; they often mirror those of more established religions, with an extraterrestrial twist. In Annalise Pasztor's Gods From Space, members of the Aetherius Society explain their mission of peace and their unique prayer method in times of crisis. We don t know how many people this group comprises overall, but with 35 centers across five continents, it s a small international community bonded by the belief that the earth needs extraterrestrial support to survive.

There are many more UFO cults out there though. In fact, a lot more. In an age of information, you can't fool the masses with outdated stone age lies, instead you use sci-fi to your advantage. People can't really distinguish fiction from reality unfortunately, even to this day and age. There are even some renowned scientists out there with similar beliefs/superstitions rooted in sci-fi culture. Perhaps our primitive, superstitious cro magnon genes are at fault here.

To all those who think this is abnormal: give me arguments that God exists and care about prayers
To all those who believe that this is normal: give me arguments that aliens care about prayers, if they are out there at all
At least Christianity was founded on the idea of praying to God. Praying to aliens seems like an edgy modern twist on the ancient practice of praying to gods

Some say the aliens are demons. God is the only way to salvation. Don't follow cults because you think they're cool, or because you think you're being open minded. Be weary of why NY times is posting this.

All believe in an omnipresent supergalactic being.

If you think about it just go to the cargo cults that exist in the Pacific. I think a lot of us are pre-wired so to speak to believe in something. I didn't get wired for that.

Aliens: Technically yes. but our ship doesn t have a tape player. Btw, we only use Divx.
