ADDICTION led to Lee fighting for his life in hospital. After his mum tragically passed away in 2011 he set off on a downward spiral of alcohol and drug addiction. The 28-year-old-s turning point came when he dropped to just over 130lbs, was unable to walk and doctors told him he was lucky to be alive. With the help of exercise, Lee has been sober for over 16 months now. His twin brother Adam also struggled with addiction but has been sober for five months and together the brothers are helping others in recovery through their Instagram page -sobertwins_life and their Zen Monkey Clothing range. Lee told Truly: -We-ve never been stronger than we are now. It-s great and our mum would be proud of us

I used to drink a lot everyday without any real repercussions. Then I had a couple bad incidents in a short span so decided to quit. Was sober for 6 months and they were the worst 6 months of my life. I had 0 will to do anything. Hated everything and everyone. I spent entire weekends in bed because I had no will to do anything. I had to force myself even to do something like playing video games and I would, without exaggeration, preferred to have a root canal than to speak with another human being. Now I have a little under 20 units a day (9% 500ml Chuhai x 4) and I am a normal, functioning member of society with interests and hobbies and no incidents.

My mom died in 1991. 2 weeks away was her 32nd birthday. She left three kids behind. Next year will be 30 years. 3/4 of my life all I-ve known is no mom. I didn-t miss her when I-ve gotten married or had kids. I miss my mom during the strangest times, like when I have a tummy ache, or when the phone rings cuz I know who isn-t calling me, or when I wonder things like her favorite holiday. .. I was only 13 when she passed. It-s sad but I know how to live without her more than I remember with her. All we can do is keep going.

I understand how he feels. Although I was skinny, I still had belly fat, but with the help of internet, during the past 3 months of quarantine, I-ve been doing abs workout and I got to say that I-m impressed with my results. I was shocked about the result. I took a picture of myself before I started the workout and after. I can-t believe my stomach lost so much weight in under 3 months. I feel so happy for myself. I know he-s story is different from mine but I know how it feels to have a good body transformation.

There are so many people that are always drinking, when I look at the FB pages of a lot of my friends back home in England, it's all they do, everything revolves around getting drunk and partying, I'm not saying theyre all alcoholics, but I'm sure there are some amongst them, but life doesn't need to be always about having a drink every single day and that's how a lot of them are.

Stopped drinking for dietary reasons. lost 100 lbs and in the process figured out beer caused all that weight gain for the most part. Plus did a number on my mental and financial well being. so better off without it. I allowed myself a few at Xmas. less than ten over three days and back on the wagon again. for at least 90. Well done - to you.

Congratulations gentlemen! It's not easy in the beginning. You've done a good job of grabbing on and holding. Pretend your program is like a kid's merry go round. If that thing is spinning really fast, the best place to be is in the centre holding on. If you're on the outside you can be flung off and be lost. ODAAT! You've got this.

Having experience at a young age with family members addicted to alcohol taught me early on the destruction and horror that alcohol can do to people and to their loved ones. I absolutely hate the stuff with a passion and made a decision at a early age never to consume the stuff and continue to live a life of abstinence.

My dad has alcoholic dementia. He is in a nursing home now. His brain will never recover. His liver will never recover. As his daughter, my heart will never recover. Do not underestimate the effects of alcohol misuse. It destroys not just the addict but everyone around them. So proud of these guys.

Respect to both of you, to those that have come to admit that they have a problem, those that are on the road to recovery and congratulations to those that have just recovered from their addictions. Keep up with your motivation and help others on your way by sharing your life experiences.

I want to be clean so bad! I-m very functional. still work out, go to school, work nearly full time. but I-m so drained and tired. Seems every week I lose more hope I-ll ever recover. I see all these stories of recovery, I just long after it. I don-t have any strength next to temptation.

Congratulations to you both. My brother was an alcoholic. He stayed sober for well over 20 years. I think he only slipped up once. Unfortunately, he passed away about 4 years ago from colon cancer. Believe me if he could stay sober you can too. I'll be praying for you both.

Lads, you are an inspiration for many. Ruined my life through drink. Not enough is done to help people who are affected by loss. Functioning and existing is all you do when your in it. Depression seems to accelerate the situation.
I wish you both all the best x

Omg. Relate to this. Lost my mum in January 2020, then lockdown and my drinking spiralled out of control! Was big drinker before mum died. Hid it well, functioning alcoholic. Now day 2 of recovery. Recovery is possible!
