BORN with eczema, Daisy Malin, 26, has suffered with her skin for as long as she can remember. When she turned 24 the pain got so bad that no medication she was offered was helping. One day, after being offered a chemotherapy drug as a last resort to help her skin, she finally had enough and stopped using medication altogether. She claims she is now going through a condition called topical steroid withdrawal; a process where her skin gets worse because she's letting her skin go 'cold turkey' from steroid creams in the hopes it will allow her skin to heal naturally - but has no way of knowing if it will work. Now, she is sharing her story to inspire other people to love themselves and their skin, no matter how difficult it can be when you're in constant pain because of it. ps I hate when people say you do not look like you have eczema just because you do not have the usual symptoms and when you tell them you had it, they act like you are lying or a hypochondriac. This is something or any illness would not lie about, and if I was diagnosed with any severe illnesses would not tell. Your skin is your shield, your protector anything that happens to it very serious. Back to my feet, when in hospital and insisted when the dressed it and bandaged them to place socks they provide socks in hospitals, I love socks cannot be without them except going out where only closed shoes and no socks. I hate sandals, and feet see plenty of ugly ones in Florida daily, the doctor was talking about doing rehab to get back to walking. I was not doing that. One nurse suggested to me wear therapy socks, she showed me she wears them. I looked at her and said oh. She is forgetting that we are in Florida. Can you imagine wearing that on my severely broken out feet with the bandages, in this intense heat, which I did, and exactly what i predicted, agony, intense itching, more itching, more itching, and the bandages coming off. I never wore them ever again. All I did was use the dressing the hospital gave me every day twice a day until once per day, and bandaged them. Once I got out of the hospital a week after was able to go for my walk in the morning, August 2020 went into the hospital as an in Patient, by mid October, away with the bandages. When the dressing from the hospital finished, all I used was hydrogen peroxide and ointments, my feet never swelled since then. So no rehab, just applying the dressing and ointments. Of course get break outs, that is the nature of it, but not as severe as before thankfully. Also the weather is the factor, in Florida it is worse, this time of the year in the WInter one minute hot and then cool though like Florida when it is the latter, but does not bode well for my skin. Just recently had another break out on the back of my neck, it is gone now. I can also have a break out in the morning by evening it is gone, due to the great ointment that I buy and the hydrogen peroxide. I still have the scars though, that will never go away, but I cannot wear watches anymore, a severe out break nearly six years ago and since then no watches, but still use one in its given box and have the phone. Got so bad, that my rings could not come off but that is fine I like wearing rings so they never come off, except for cleaning. It is all these things. Very terrible.

My eczema was this bad as a teenager, especially my arms, hands, neck, and face. Now, it'll flare up every now and then, sometimes without warning, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was. I used to try and wear long gloves to bed to keep myself from unconsciously scratching in my sleep, and my body would take them up and I'd wake up worse than before. I finally found a good dermatologist who did prescribe me a steroid cream, but one of the key things she told me was to always start at a low dosage, and not go too high in my daily regiment, NO MATTER WHAT. A higher dosage of something every blue moon is fine, and even some over-the-counter medicated lotions were too much, as I found out with the maximum strength medicated Gold Bond--felt amazing, but once your skin gets used to that high of a dosage, the lotion/ steroids stop working. The key for me was a mixture of reducing irritants [checking what soaps, clothes, sheets, etc. I used, what scents I was exposed to], a scheduled use of my low-steroid, constantly moisturizing with dermatologist approved and heavily researched creams/lotions, cool compresses, and many other things. It was a combination of many small changes to what I exposed my skin to, and a huge part of my eczema flare-ups were related to stress and hormones, aka puberty. It's still bad at times, but now I have scars and rough patches instead of bleeding or peeling skin. One thing I will note with this video is that not all natural remedies actually do what you think they will for any amount of time. I took oatmeal baths, and the key with that is you have to time it, because being in oatmeal too long actually irritates your skin by drying it out--same with hot water, or lavender. I HATE lavender, even if it smells nice, because a lot of people think it's naturally soothing, and it can often irritate the skin worse. A huge part of my skin regiment now is moisturizing and finding ways to rebuild/regrow my skin, so that it's stronger and better protected, not just stopping the itch. I do swear by CeraVe cream, it's what goes on first thing after my showers, but now I'm also taking to layering my skincare products, being VERY careful about what mixes with what and slowly introducing my skin to things, because another common problem is that people with eczema go through many products in a short time and the combination ends up irritating or destroying their skin.

Oh it's upsetting to see this. The inflammatory process here is so out of control. The fact is that some people have an immune system that is so atopic that 'first-line' treatments including emollients and topical steroids, simply do not suffice to reduce the inflammation. 'Second-line' treatments include Narrowband UVB Phototherapy and topical immunomodulators such as Tacrolimus and Pimecrolimus, all of which can help some cases. But in a case as severe as this, I don; ' think phototherapy would be tolerated. It looks to me as if a third-line treatment is needed here. These in the past would have included methotrexate and ciclosporin orally, which have given back decent quality of life for people with severe atopic eczema, but which need careful monitoring. Nowadays there is a new class of treatments coming on the scene, called -biologicals- based on monoclonal antibodies. These are medicines ending in -mab-. Dupilumab is an example. These new biologicals can be life-changing and are the first effective new treatment for severe atopy in a very long time. -Going natural-, I am afraid, doesn't cut it. Frankly, it can lead to death, either through infection via compromised skin barrier, or from thermal shock due to erythroderma. I hope very much that in the time since making this video, the young lady has seen a good dermatologist and has found an effective treatment regimen. It is always worth contacting the National Eczema Society in the UK or the National Eczema Association in the USA.

I-ve been dealing with eczema since I was a baby, I had to go to the hospital when I was 3-6 because my skin was just raw and I was given a high dose of topical steroids. It got worse and better over the years I have white scars on my thighs because I scratched this spot so much it never healed and recently it-s got worse again since the harsh winter. I-m always being told just don-t scratch it-s not that hard but scratching has become a big habit especially when I-m nervous or stressed, so when my skin gets worse I get stressed and scratch it more making everything worse, I stay up till 3am to 5am scratching (currently 4: 48am) I-ve been getting more insecure about it and I am afraid of relying on topical steroids to much so I-ve been using a prescribed pill normally used for allergies and hives to help relieve any itchiness when I can-t handle it. My heart goes out to anyone else who has to deal with eczema it-s much more than what others think it is, I-m only 14 and it-s affected me so much.

I had this as a young lad during the 1990s. It was HORRIFIC! It totally destroyed my early life - I was constantly anxious, edgy, troubled, tired, in pain, zero and I do mean ZERO confidence. Total shambles. Car crash my life was! I lost friends, relationships, jobs, opportunities, financial gains, education, pretty much EVERYTHING. My mental health was a f'ing graveyard. The 1990s was a time when people had little sympathy or understanding for others. A decade of selfishness and the me me me generation. Even family members showed me nothing but zero understanding. Yes it was BAD.
Now I'm middle aged I'm past it as I grew out of it after hitting my 30's. But the memories are still there.
Put it this way, I wouldn't relive the time back then for 500 million pounds! Not even for a day. Its not worth it!
I sincerely sympathise with anyone who suffers with this condition.

Lugol's Solution 5% is what everyone with exzema should be trying instantly. It really helps cure the underlying cause of exzema within a couple days! I had exzema for 3 years and it went away within 4 days! Rub a couple drops into the exzema twice a day. It will stain your skin so use glows. But your skin will soak it all up within a couple hours. The quicker your skin absorbs it, the more deficient you are in Iodine, which is the base of the solution. Research Dr. David Brownstein and his book on Iodine deficiency, because you might be super low on it in general and your exzema is just an outward sign of that. Your exzema will clear up within days! You might need to moisture the skin after a few days as it starts peeling.

Watching your video i wanted to ask so many questions, i'm not a doctor. I'm 61yrs, i've suffered with eczema nearly all my life. I've had great help and support over the years. Those well known words, ' You are what you eat' use to upset me. but belive me, most of that is true. I also hated words like, you will have to cut out sugar, milk and meat, all the things i love. I've choosen to reduce these food items. I'm allergic to eggs and fish anyway so that was no problem. Doing these small changes has made a massive difference, oh yes drink lots of water. I am now 90% clear of eczema and have been for aprox 20yrs.
I wish you well in your personal discovery for what will work for you. Sent from Darlington England.

I have psoriasis I was on Methotrexate for 2 years for my arthritis too, it did get rid of my psoriasis. I came off the methotrexate when it made me feel sick. I changed to a plant based diet and gluten free, it made a huge difference to my arthritis. I still get small patches of psoriasis, made worse when I eat fried food, citrus fruits, citric acid, inulin powder and sugar, I don-t drink alcohol. I am trying to heal my gut and improve my microbial with sauerkraut and eating healthy fibre like psyllium husk powder and a tbsp of ground flaxseed. I think leaky gut is connected to autoimmune diseases like this. If you can heal your gut your skin will follow. Also intermittent fasting helps reduce inflammation.

My daughter suffered from severe eczema since birth and doctors just pushed steroids. It is only when they allowed her to have allergy testing that they discovered she had milk, eggs, and wheat as big allergies and many samall ones and her leves of IgE was over the chart which is not good. After i removed these from her diet she cleared up her lever of IgE decreased over the years. Now we have wery small low concentration medecine just in case but we always throw it when it expires because she never use them anymore. So the allergy test and diet tailord to you is the key. But trust me you will have to fight those doctors to have that test. If you need more info you can message me.

I keep having small pimple-like bumps and when they pop, they usually dont heal anymore. They start to crack and wounds get bigger, and they also spread. And they ooze with yellowish discharge which is very embarrassing.
My doctor diagnosed it as eczema and prescribed an antibiotic corticosteroid cream, and it was working but after a few weeks/months they keep coming back.
I dont want to always use the cream as I know antibiotics are bad in the long run, bacteria might get resistant. And also I'm hearing about steroid withdrawal.
If you have any natural remedies or cure that works, please reply on this comment as it would help me and others suffering from eczema. Thanks.

I've had eczema all my life, as a kid it was all over my arms and legs, as a teen it would fester the most on my inner elbows, inner knees, and my fingers. Now as of the past month I've had the worst flare-up on my inner elbows and on the tops of my hands and around all my fingers. Steroid cream has stopped working and I find I'm not able to resist scratching when I'm asleep (I wear gloves to bed but can never seem to keep them on. I'll be going to the doctor's next week to see if anything can be done, but I'm not holding out much hope since I've been itchy my entire life and I hate how greasy some topicals are. Anyways yah, that's my story.

I am allergic to laundry detergent. I now wash in Tide Free. Then I do a second full wash with no detergent to wash out the residual chemicals. No fabric softener or dryer -bounce- sheets. All clothes the are put in the dryer must have been double washed to prevent the dryer from getting contaminated with chemicals. I live in an apartment and I got my own small 120 volt dryer. This helped my eczema about 80%. Laundry detergent was the main cause on my problems, try washing twice (or threes times) to get the detergent out of your cloths. Hope this helps.

I have it on my eyelids. It starts in winter and never leaves. moisturizer/emollient just makes it more itchy and swollen- i have been using tacrolimus for 5 months now i apply it whenever it flares up twice or thrice a month but now people say tacrolimus cause withdrawal too just like topical steroid withdrawal or maybe worst. as of now i just have it on my eyes and i am 7 months topical steroid free. now i am scared that i will go into withdrawal from stopping tacrolimus. this disease is so frustrating.

For a long time, my brother thought he had eczema. It became so bad it was all over his body. He went to many doctors, but finally, he met a doctor that told him in the results she got back that his calcium and vitamin D was the lowest she ever saw. So after he got more vitamin D and calcium on a regular basis his skin condition looks a hundred percent better. I can't say this will help everyone with their skin conditions. But hopefully it will help someone out there

I'm finding out that are boatloads of people who are going through TSW my daughter is one. She is 35 years old and has been into TSW for 19 months. She is a very very strong person. I am thankful to you for helping to spread the word to help people be aware of this temporarily debilitating and crippling journey. I really wish employers would be aware and understanding of possible missing work or working from home etc.

But give into temptation when ur so depressed and stressed. lots of toxins in the body. Im doing herbal steam treatment at the tcm on my hands and legs to remove the cold and dampness from within my body and it helps a lot

My 3 year old has eczema like yours. We-re still trying to find what works but he-s been using steroid cream. It works for now but I-m scared of what it-ll do to him down the road. That-s all his doctor has offered us in terms of treatment.
His skin sheds off like you were saying too. I will start cleaning his sheets every single day; thank you for that tip!

My eczema gets bad. Really bad on my mental health as well but so comforting to see other people have it as worse as me, even tho that-s sounds bad. What helped me a lot is stopping hot showers, take cold showers and for less than 5 mins. Also don-t shave as often as I used to: )

Daisy, I have eczema too but not as bad as you. Just recently I discovered that putting Castor Oil on my rashes has reduced them to the point of almost disappearing. It can-t hurt you to try since it-s all natural. I have been amazed. Hope this helps and good luck!

Mine has gotten so bad it's debilitating but I have a solution that might work for some people. Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar take orally with water at least an 8 oz of water and a herb called Neem take them together and also don't eat a lot of sugar or Caffeine.
