BRIMMING with positivity, New Zealand based Tayla Clement was born with Moebius syndrome - a type of facial paralysis that means she can't smile. After being bullied throughout her teenage years and never really knowing where she fit in, she found her confidence and decided that her condition would not define her. Now, she is a record breaking paralympian, influencer, motivational speaker and charity ambassador with a mission to show people that no matter what you're going through, there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Tayla said: Moebius syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that affects my sixth and seventh cranial nerves. So, that means that my eyebrows don't move, my eyes don't track from left to right and my upper lip doesn't move which means I can't smile and it's super rare. How to Play the Game of Life
Why do children wake up with their eyes wide open and jump out of bed while we open them just wide enough to see the phone so we can set it to snooze? Why are young people energetic and ready to -conquer the world- while older people are cautious and hesitant? Can we stay young-spirited forever? After all, if life is not a game, there is no excitement in it. And if there is no excitement in life, what is the point of living?
If we want to keep enjoying, we need to make life a lifelong game. This game is very different from anything we know. It is not about what we can receive, but about what we can discover! By connecting to other people, we discover new worlds, other people-s worlds!
How do we achieve this? Quite simply, we need to focus on others rather than on ourselves. This may sound simple, but if you try it, you will realize how self-absorbed you are.
We are all like that. Even those who feel that they are generous and giving are absorbed in their giving and do not see how much they do it for their own interest, and how they are focused on their own benefit when they give. Giving is fine, but the focus is the point here. Had the focus been on the receiver, the giver would have discovered countless revelations that are hidden from a self-centered eye.
For the game to succeed, you need partners. It is impossible to play the game of giving without people to whom you can give and from whom you can receive. Therefore, there must be a group of people, up to ten or so, who play the game together.
In order to succeed in discovering the other players- worlds, we need to think good thoughts about them. Otherwise, we will have no incentive to approach them, no desire to discover their world. We can think good thoughts about each other if we do good things for one another. These can be the simplest things, but they must make us feel good about each other. Positive thoughts about each other bring us closer, and closeness opens our minds and hearts to others, so we can see the world through their eyes.
As with any game, the more we practice, the better we get, and the harder, yet more rewarding the game becomes. But unlike any other game, as we improve in it, we will find that our entire perspective on life changes and expands, and we become wiser and more competent.
The game of life, unlike any other game, reveals to us the secrets of life, the secrets of reality, because when you can look at something from all angles, nothing remains hidden from you.

My sister has this syndrome! This is so awesome to see a video bringing awareness to it! 1. 2 million views! I want people to know that even though she can't express it with her face, my sister is a person who has a full range of emotions and thoughts and feelings. Facial expressions are huge part of communication. Until you live without them you don't realize how important they are in being understood during interactions with others. There is a person within who feels all the emotions that you feel!

It's not just that she can't smile, but she can't stop grimacing.
At least it appears clear that she has a condition (to me at least); if it weren't so clear, people might genuinely mistake her mood for one of sadness all the time and pester her about it.
Due to her good sense of humour, she seems in good stead to use her condition to her advantage- be awesome to see her in a movie or something.
Huge respect from me (not that she needs a self esteem boost, it seems)

Humanity isnt as civilized as advertised. Hate and bigotry has recently taken over a political party in my country the USA which may put our Democratic values and society at risk. This woman and others that are attacked must associate with normal thinking people and not idiots and fools. We all must engage in activities that give us pleasure and not worry about how others perceive us. We have one short life to live so dont waist time dwelling on negativity.

I would actually love to meet her. I have permanent facial palsy. I can actually smile a little but it is real hard to tell when I am smiling. I know what she must go through on a daily basis. She is very beautiful to me. Most people who smile a lot are fake anyway. To bad she doesn't live near me I would definitely ask her out.
reply

So what if she can't smile. A real man would focus on a woman's inner beauty instead of her outer. In my past life, I've dated 4 cross-eye women, 2 women with deformity, 4 very tall women, and conjoined twins (that was a two-way package deal. So dating a woman who can't smile with me no exception to me.

It-s really sad and immature that full grown adults rely on social media so much every day, and feel they have to post their WHOLE life story on the internet. Disability or not. I think I-m the only 27 year old female with no social media account what so ever.

Hello Princes, God makes everything new, and great healings, just as he made a new liver in my mother, he can do new things in you, God's love is strong and true, even so you look beautiful keep going.

ALthough it is weird a bit that when she was like talking joyfully her face was paralyzed but I have to say that the tone when she was speaking joyfully truly made me smile.
reply

I have seen clips of her before and didn't realize she had face paralysis! I thought maybe she had lip work done and was pulling a sassy straight face. She speaks SO well!

Bullies should be charged with harassment and assault. Sick of them getting off so easy. New Zealand has a shocking bullying rate. Go girl!
reply

When she said her not being able to smile was her super power, I thought that was epic. Very powerful girl and radiant in her confidence.

Moebius syndrome is having a really tough time putting a dent in her attractiveness - she's got unbelievably beautiful features!
reply

At least she doesn't have to worry about smile lines on her face, no worries about those wrinkles. That's the advantage she got
reply

I have it too and feel her pain, growing up definitely sucked now it-s way better since I learned how to cope and embrace myself
reply

I feel completely sad for her, people are bullying her because she can't smile, god made her that way this is unbelievable.
reply

Even with facial paralysis, she is beautiful. I'm glad she has found purpose in her life and is going out, living her life.
reply

The good old phrase, -never judge a book by its cover- applies to everything in life huh? Because this girl is a sweetheart
reply

Bullying is wrong that's is something natural. People should be thankful of being born normal and or beautiful etc
