The Tusked Weta is New Zealand's equivalent of a Mouse and a worthy snack for a Foraging Pig. This Weta however is an escape artist and when necessary can take quite extreme action to evade capture

Not many arthropods can easily transition between land/air and water, usually just because water tension is so much more dangerously strong at bug size, we don't see it happen often, but it makes sense that a mammal sized bug wouldn't give it a second thought.

80 million years of no pigs. Why does it have this strategy? . How long did it take a kiwi to decide flying was too much like hard work and become a lazy non flyer and choose a lifestyle of staying in bed all day?

Imagine the first weta 80 mil years ago just drowning trying to do that. 40 millions years go by some get better at being david Blaine and the others that dont get eaten. Now we have scuba diving wetas. weird

Aren't wild pigs also destroying certain SUPER IMPORTANT parts of Forests and even bringing down SUPER IMPORTANT animals and super rare birds? Like in and around Australia I think it is.

What a confusing title. I thought the Weta was going to physically fight the pig. Instead it pussied out and ran and hid like a white guy in Seattle. Clickbait!

Predators in water mostly fishes dislike Tusked Weta? or same was lucky not to b devoured by fish, BBC earth didn't mention about it.

So what did the Weta do to survive for the 80 million years it took for him to evolve, carry a revolver for protection?
