The Poetry of Sylvia Plath: Crash Course Literature 216 Christian: I'll be honest, the poems are fun and interesting and good and all. But I don't see anything profoundly unusual in Plath's or Hughes poems. They sound a lot like poems I would scribble on napkins on airplanes and then throw them away as being silly, or in some notebook buried in a box of memories somewhere. Are these author's poems REALLY much better than everyone else's? Why the special attention to them? Are there no other poets similar to Plath or Hughes? Why single them out? The commercial success of their books (which is often based on luck, opportunity, and chance?

Vincent Van Gogh made his best work when he was in moments of recovery, people need to stop twisting the -depressed genius artist- stereotype in general. Artists create beautiful things -in spite- of mental illness, not because of it.

im not educated and im also a man, but I have pretty bad depression and I recently found out about her, and her train of thought and the way she processes the world is me, my daily experience. depression is torture and hell on earth.

Even if she is poetry for just teenage girls, why do we discredit things liked by teenage girls? They are people. and a MASSIVE demographic. I hate that things are so often discredited as soon they become popular among teenage girls.

My father wouldn't let me read Plath when I was a teen. Fortunately, that was only a relative fraction of my life, and a very long time ago. Most of his books I was permitted to read, however.

Why do I need to come back and listen to this so often?
I suppose I'm glad I am able to come back,
glad it was written in the first place.
Thank you, John.

Did you consider that those -temporary- problems seem yawning and never ending? Characterizing it in that light is frankly insulting to I and others that have issues with this.

If You're a fan of Sylvia Plath, you might be interested in my musical interpretation of Mad Girls Love Song over on my page. No pressure, but if you do head over, enjoy!

I accidentally dropped the carving knife on my big toe and cut off the end. I told the doctor how -thrilling- this was. I now see a shrink twice a week. ---
