In which John Green teaches you about how Islam has interacted with politics during it's history, and how it continues to do so today. Islamist movements are in the news a lot lately, but how did that happen. John will point out that Islam has alway been tied to political movements. Mohammed was not only a religious leader, he led an empire. So how did this lead to modern movements like ISIS? Islam has traditionally been a pretty egalitarian religion, and its scriptures value peace, so it is surprising in a lot of ways that such a violent fundamentalist movement would come out of it. What is a caliphate? What is a Caliph? John will teach you all about it. Take it easy in the comments, y'all. Be kind and respectful to each other. You can directly

All nations accuse us of fanaticism. I admit the charge - I go further and say that we are justified in our fanaticism. -
Translated in the language of biology fanaticism is nothing but the principle of individuation working in the case of -
group. In this sense all forms of life are more or less fanatical and ought to be so if they care for their collective -
life. And as a matter of fact all nations are fanatical. Criticise an Englishman-s religion, he is immovable; but criticise his civilisation, his country or the behaviour of his -
nation in any sphere of activity and you will bring out his innate fanaticism. The reason is that his nationality does not depend on religion; it has a geographical basis - his -
country. His fanaticism then is justly roused when you criticise his country. Our position, however, is fundamentally different. With us nationality is a pure idea; it has no material basis. Our only rallying point is a sort of -
mental agreement in a certain view of the world. If then our fanaticism is roused when our religion is criticised, I think we are as much justified in our fanaticism as an -
Englishman is when his civilisation is denounced. The feeling in both cases is the same though associated with different objects. Fanaticism is patriotism for religion; patriotism, fanaticism for country.

It seems all the problems start when people start comparing what one person or a group of people did or practices against the whole religion.
We've made religions to feel like a game of Chinese Whisper where you only believe what the last person told you instead of the original message.
Instead of focusing what one person/a group of people did or is doing at a given point in time, try to understand that everyone is prone to mistakes. Don't judge a religion, any religion, by the actions of a person/a group of people.
At it's core religions are spontaneous and necessary for the fabric of our social lives. You will never find any person who does not believe in something, anything. Accept it and you will understand that this vile practice of belittling another person's believes is a complete waste of your time.
Thanks for the video CrashCourse!

LMAOO Iran's President is not a dictator you're right, he's the puppet to the ACTUAL Dictator: THE SUPREME LEADER. Which is a boiler plate dictator on par with the North Korea's, if you ask anyone, including google.
