Venus: Crash Course Astronomy #14
video description
Venus appears to be getting dragged backwards in it's rotation, by it-s atmospheric super-rotation. The actual mechanism for forcing the atmosphere in reverse at such high speed, is really the pivotal question. The prime-mover appears to be our rotating Sun. Various electro-magnetic and radiative forces transfer angular momentum from the Sun, to the atmosphere of Venus. This reverse-rotates, friction-dragging the planet's crust as it rotates.
-For an in-depth examination of this theory, read Quora thread: Why does the atmosphere on Venus move around at such high speeds?
-Concentrate on my post.

I'd be willing to bet theres water on venus, under the surface. maybe a kilometer or less down
At least venus has atmosphere, and lots of heat which can be used for energy generation
I'd say venus might be good to colonize in tunnels, at its poles. better than the moon or Mars maybe
Mars has barely any atmosphere, the sun is blocked out by dust storms, problems for any human colony

It's weird because you can't actually see the surface, so how do they know it ever was Earth like. Venus is not a runaway greenhouse. It was like that since it came to be.
They call it a greenhouse so as to dramatize the concequences of what they call -Global Warming- here on Earth. I think its proximity to the sun is what makes it a demon planet

Greenhouse effect, yes, but not because of solar radiation being trapped. The thousand metres thick clouds surrounding the whole planet reduce incoming solar radiation to less than 3%. But Venus is the most volcanic planet in the solar system, hence the SO2, and the heat, which reduces the diurnal temperature to zero (hence no surface winds.

you rotated Venus in the wrong direction in your days/revolution example. The Sun rises in the West and sets in the East on Venus. So it rotates clockwise when you're looking down from above.

What would happen if we sped up the rotation of Venus? It may cool the planet, bring a magnetic field (it's late but maybe not too late. It would be a great experiment to learn from.

ORRRR. ALIENS.
Too many alien hummers.
How funny would it be if we went to all the more likely places first like europa/Mars and venus last but we found fossils there.

By international agreement all features on Venus must be named after women. Who did the name the pancake domes after?
I'm asking for a friend.

What if we used to live on venus and we destroyed it completely and some people moved to earth and now doing same thing we done on earth

If venus lacks magnetic field why does it have a thick atmosphere while mars lost its atmosphere because it lacks magnetic field?
