Welcome to Crash Course Games! In this series our host Andre Meadows is going to discuss the history and science of games. We-re going to talk about video games of course, but also board games, role playing games, card games, even sports! But before we get ahead of ourselves we are going to look at what a game actually is, who is playing these games, and what they are doing to us. It turns out these answers aren-t as obvious as they would seem, but one thing is definitely clear: games make up a huge portion of most peoples- lives, and we think that can be a great thing!

So if slinky vs. stairs is a challenge, why is me vs. a cpu a game? A cpu is also a non-human obstacle.
You could say that the difference is autonomy. Facing a bot feels a lot different than shooting a target (if the bot is good enough) mainly because the bot can move and do other active stuff like shoot and crouch and whatever. But sometimes even the best bots are predictable which makes them closer to targets the more you get used to them.
I think the difference is the symmetry of goals and the ability to fight back.

I'm uncomfortable with this course because I just finished the psychology course and I have gotten used to Bernese being a recurring character and I'm very upset that she's not part of this course as well
I was conditioned by Marvel into expecting everything to turn into a cinematic universe
I have issues

Doesn't this mean that games with a goal, but no enemies or opposing players (like endless runners) are puzzles not games? It doesnt seem llike dexterity based challenges should be called puzzles because acieving your goal isnt based on problem solving.

I wonder what if James Rolfe of AVGN end up hosting this show. -What are they thinking! This game sucks! It feels like diarrhea coming out of my nostrils! -

Crash Course Games was filmed in Indianapolis, Indiana.
This brings a smile to my face, I live a few hours away from the capital of Indiana.
