So by the mid-90s the video game industry was once again booming and this attracted the attention of the Japanese electronics giant Sony. In 1994, Sony introduced their Playstation console which successfully coupled cutting edge technologies with some great games. But Nintendo and Sega weren-t just sitting around. In the 90-s we would see the introduction of the Sega Saturn and eventually the Sega Dreamcast as well as Nintendo-s immensely popular Nintendo 64. And with this new hardware came a new era of immersive games. Games were going 3D, and with the introduction of CD-s, the size of games increased dramatically allowing for much longer and complex storytelling. Local multi-player and split screen games also became popular during this time as consoles such like Nintendo 64 were now powerful enough to support these kinds of social games. And games on the PC were becoming more immersive as first person shooters began to flourish on the platform. But Sega saw many failed launches in the 90s due to poor marketing and some poor games. By the end of the 90-s the industry had lost confidence in Sega and even its revolutionary Dreamcast could not keep the company competitive in the hardware space, but it wouldn-t be long before a new player would take Sega-s place. Next week we-re going to talk about Microsoft-s X-Box. Want some Crash Course Games merch? Check out our beautiful Snake-inspired mugs! Also

I realize this is two years old by now, but from what I have seen so far there is little to no mention of what became of arcades in this series.
How can one talk about Mortal Kombat but not also about the thrilling excitement of being the one kid on the block who knew how to turn into a dragon and bite someone's torso off. IN PUBLIC!
When did arcades start fading from existence in all but dedicated corners of movie theaters and -Die Hard- (heh) specialized bars?
SEGA survived in part due to its arcade machine branches, and there are still SEGA arcades in Japan today.
This is a huge oversight that should have been addressed. DAY-TON-A!

And again -honest- capitalists ignore topic of Communist games of USSR and China.
It happens with all topics about Communists. An -open and honests- capitalists try to hide and lie about everything that is connected to Communists. Lika baning good movies. games, whole Computer and scientific achivemants lies in history books about first Man in space and thet Communists where rigth in Vietnam and tons of other stuff.
And strange, capitalists perfectly accept nazi achivemants like they where your best buddies.

Erm Saturn had such better games, Shining Force 3, Burning Ranger, to name but two. Dreamcast brought back Phantasy Star and gave us Skies of Arcadia 2 amazing games, shame that one was a bust. My personal experience from playstation was just a few games but with different audience in mind, crash bandicoot and spyro are a good example. Why nothing about Amiga's super amazing and just brimming with 16 and 32 bit games.

This video reminds me of something developers need to remember. It is software not hardware that makes people buy a console. If the console has no good software, or at least the promise that it will arrive very soon. People won't buy the console.

I used to play Super Smash brothers with a friend of mine on our trips to go camping with a small tv we took with us. I used to hit his characters so hard I could see them fly through the SUV's back windows.

The section on the Nintendo Playstation at 3: 00The two companies teamed up in 1998? That can't be right. Two years after the launch of the N64 and 4 years after the original Playstation?

I get annoyed with everyone mentioning Goldeye, but never pointing out Perfect Dark which was a massive improvement on the game design having much better controls.

Also, the N64 was NOT the first controller to include a stick. It was the first DEFAULT controller, but the Deluxe Sega Genesis controller had a joystick.

There will be nothing like PS1. Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken 3, GTA 2 and Spyro. THE PERFECT experiences. It was incredibly amazing.
