In which Mike Rugnetta brings you the final installation of our unit on creation myths. This week, we're talking about human beings and their relationship to the natural world. It turns out foundational stories have a lot to teach us about the ways in which people relate to the physical world around them, and the other organisms that inhabit that world. We'll talk about the Biblical idea that humans have dominion over animals, and we'll talk about Native American stories in which people and nature collaborate to create the world

Cats probably got domesticated because in ancient civilizations because all the food stores attracted mice. Humans viewed mice as pests because they ate our food and carried disease and noticed the cats were more than eager to get rid of them. So we just kept them around and bred the human friendly ones (correction human tolerant ones. Its also why the ancient egyptians worshipped them. Because they got rid of the pests that ruined crops and their food.

If there is anyone that can teach people about the true meaning of myth which is the ancient word for history it isn't going to come from an academic, anyone that knows anything knows they live in their own fantasy world only seeing what their textbook and degree tells them to see.

Later Biblical text says God cares for the animals and plants and is aware of one sparrow that falls from the sky. I think there is a much bigger view of God's care that is expressed in the biblical text that many human-centered views overlook.

I just dont see why humans would be so important in the big picture. So I feel that if every other creature doesnt share the same god and have the same importance, then nothing should. Humans just overfantasize

I don-t disagree with this. Even a domestic dog is a scavenger that want a piece of our turkey sandwich. It-s a survival mechanism and humans figured out the arrangement that dogs help them out and they get fed.

Primitive? That mindset seems more progressive than primitive. Still the thing about -positive- stereotypes is that they create a pressure on them to be perfect. But I digress. Progression all the way!

Your humour grates on me. Maybe it does't travel well outside of the US. It is too TRY HARD to be funny. It is a shame as it ruins an otherwise interesting presentation.

Only dummies would think that nature isnt about harmony, thats why the most enlighten people, usually praise nature, were just a bunch of bipolar apes anyways: -)

I would be sooooooo happy if they did one on Otrera and her path of killing her husband, recruiting women, pillaging villages, and founding the amazon kingdom

I also see the Judeo-Christian creation story. Dogs to this day have that pack mentality where there-s an alpha and That includes us humans.
