So. what do Producers even do? It's a hard question to answer because there are so many different kinds of producers on a movie. In this episode of Crash Course Film Production, Lily Gladstone talks us through the different kinds of producers and what they do in the movies

Don't apologize about the money: Movies are a business. The main producer selects a screenplay for a movie that she thinks will make a lot more in ticket sales than it will cost to produce. Then she sells the idea of the movie to investors (the movie's pitch is the producer's sales pitch to the investors. Then she uses the investors' money to hire cast, director, and production services and organizes the actual production of the movie. When it's finished, she sells the movie to distributors. With luck, the movie sells lots of tickets to people who consider the money well spent; the distributors and investors make big profits; and if the movie helps the whole movie industry by inspiring people to buy tickets to other movies, then the producer might get to accept a -Best Picture- Oscar,

Great vid! Informative and unambiguous. Although. on a typical indie film, the EP is not always the one who -oversees the whole filmmaking process and other producers involved in the project. - That COULD be the case, although on the features that I've been associated with, the EP was primarily the producer involved with financing the film. A creative producer, holding the title of -Producer- was the one overseeing other producers and managing the entire process, from development to distribution. The person(s) who accepts the Oscar for Best Picture is. the Producer. Not the Executive Producer. In television, the EP generally does oversee other producers and the process. That said, I loved the clarity and fun vibe of this vid. Thank you!

Thank you for continuing to make quality content about various topics and fields of learning. If it wasn't for Crash Course, I definitely would not have broadened my knowledge and learned as much as I have, and I've had fun along the way to boot!

Stanley Motss: This is nothing! Piece of cake! Producing is being a samurai warrior. They pay you day in, day out for years so that one day when called upon, you can respond, your training at its peak, and save the day! - Movie: Wag the Dog
