Regardless of their literary merit, exposure to certain books or movies should be based on the intellectual and emotional development of the student. That's not censure, that's loving stewardship. Lasting harm can be inflicted by ignorant or callous instructors on unprepared minds and hearts. And, since we develop at different rates, students should be given some choice in what we're forced to immerse ourselves in. On top of that, instructors can't know what personal experiences their students may have had or may still be going through (in terms of illness, abuse, or other trauma) that can be made worse by a teacher's indifference and stubborn dedication to established curriculum.

I first read it three years ago on a creepypasta index.
I loved it. I thought it was a horror story and that there was a spirit in the house which used her loneliness to possess her.
The fact that she wanted to be free must have resonated with the ghost wanting to be free as well.
Then about a year ago I read about the author and realized it's not a horror story at all.
I mean it is. There really might be a ghost. But the oppression and feminism and Mishandling of mental illness are great interpretations too.
I think it's an amazing piece of literature.

I find it interesting how close rest treatment is the same as modern day concussion treatment. I've had a concussion for the past three months and, especially in the beginning, i was just supposed to lie in bed with my eyes closed for hours. i wasn't allowed to use my phone or read or write or do puzzles or walk around or make art. it's incredibly isolating and boring and you very quickly have to make the decision between being in pain or being bored and I found that i would often choose pain.

After reading primarily Sci Fi, Science Fantasy and Comic books my whole life, my initial take was that there really were people in the wall paper. Probably fairies of some sort. Confused by the ending, I didn't find out the true meaning of the story until years later. LOL

I am really appreciative that John got kind of personal in this episode. Obviously I am aware that everyone can experience mental health issues but to hear John talk about it the way he did I just feel very grateful. It gave me some peace about my own. Thanks John!

I listened to a radio show starring Agnes Moorehead and Jane is John's sister. I thought Agnes Moorehead did a fantastic job of going from someone who seems sane to going a little insane to going off the wall kind of going back and forth

I read this in college and was haunted by it. I love it to this day. I like that you can apply the yellow wallpaper to almost any situation you feel trapped by. I don't think I'll ever get out of mine without going crazy.

I read this in my American Literature class a semester or two ago. I can't remember how the full argument went but I argued that the room was a uterus and her being tied with a rope was like an umbilical cord
