You know, thus far this series has been less -History of SCIENCE- than -History of Bulls--t Superstition. - With the exceptions of astronomy, architecture/engineering, mathematics and medicine, which has SO MANY EXCEPTIONS it barely counts, NONE of the -science- thus far discussed has ANY basis in observation or actual fact. It is, rather, all based on supposition and superstition.
The -alchemists- wrote their formulae in code? WHO. CARES. Their formulas were nonsense and based on beliefs that had no evidence BECAUSE THEY WERE FALSE. Feng Shui is just as nonsensical as the transmutation of lead into gold. Alchemy is nonsense, was nonsense, and HAS ALWAYS BEEN nonsense.
-Alchemy- is IN NO WAY -science. - SCIENCE did not begin until the bare beginnings of the establishment of the scientific METHOD during the Italian Renaissance (Galileo, anyone, and did not really establish itself until the 18th century. Therefore, no -History of Science- should begin before 1400 or so unless we're discussing architecture, ASTRONOMY (NOT astrology, engineering, math, or (sometimes) medicine. EVERY other -science- until then was based solely on supposition and /or superstition without any evidence whatsoever.
In fact, the -History of SCIENCE- should not begin until the acceptance of the scientific METHOD during the European -Enlightenment. - Anything that happens BEFORE that is simply not -science. -

Notice how he skipped over that alchemy could also mean -Black science- as in science created by the Black people of ancient Kemet (Egypt, to wit, its original spelling, -al-kemy- - science from Black Kemet?
He knows this point of view but refused to say it.
Why, oh, why? - blank stare -
Thank God for Robert Bauval and Thomas Brophy setting the historical records straight concerning the genetic blackness of ancient Kemet.
Even so, good and informative video.
Kudos!

As a German I'm offended in how you pronounce Decknamen. It is pronounced like: Deck - Naam - Men
The a in namen as in Naan.
What it means in English Namen means Names and Deck can be translated multiple ways but in this name it would translate into Cover/Cover Up so Decknamen= Cover Up Names.

Kinda disappointed that there was practically no mention of the spiritual aspect of alchemy and all attention was on the physical -turn lead into gold- stuff. There are several layers to this stuff and this video essentially saw the surface level and went -yep, that's it! -.

Minor correction, often when they referred to Mercury, Sulfur, and Salt, they were referring to the spirit, soul, and body of the substance. This is likely what they meant when they said that any element can be made by shoving mercury and sulfur together.

Decknamen is German and is also already plural! Deckname (Singular Form of Decknamen) come from the German verb -Decken-, meaning to -To Cover- or -To Cover up-, and the German verb -Name-, obsiously meaning -Name- or -Title-!

This reminded me of something my biology teacher told me as, sadly a way to mock me. When asked about a theoretical way to stop the death of a living thing she explained -That's simple. Simply stop oxidation-

Moon and Saturn are Silver and lead
Silver and lead don't react with each other
But may be sulfur on silver can give some result
But still, I want some amazing reaction
