Thanks for the series and a lot of good advice. However, I refuse to seek out sources that disagree with my worldview. When I'm brought face to face with what 40% of this country believes, I get a tight feeling in my chest and taping a plastic bag over my head starts to look like the only reasonable course of action. I know they are out there -- I live in Texas, BELIEVE ME I know they're out there -- but please don't ask me to stare them in the face for the sake of accuracy or balance. Don't ask me to balance truth with lies, facts with assertions, tolerance with bigotry, wholesomeness with rot, love with hate, trust with fear. There's got to be another way.

I'm a librarian and instructor in information literacy and this series is great as background for students to think more deeply about what they see/hear/read. The lateral reading is very important. Students are amazed when they are required to evaluate a website and how long it actually takes to find a good one to use in research (one that is credible and less biased. I can't want to refer my students to some of these videos as background on the topics we discuss. Thank you for this series!

I was really hoping you would spend one episode discussing -What IS a 'fact'. - Because to majority of millennials a 'fact' is simply something that benefits their claim and everything that doesn't is a 'propaganda'. I spend significant amount of time exploring what the Left Wing and the Right Wing says, and the thing that BOTH keeps saying ALL the time is that the other side is under Dunning Kruger effect and doesn't want to listen to 'Facts'.

7: 30 Why is targeted advertisement bad? It means I get ads which are actually relevant to me. I don't get adds for things that would be wrong geographically, or my age or gender or things I am simply not intrested in. For an example I from time to time get adds for thigns like football matches and I very much would prefer not to, also if they could realize I have never ever gambled and stop sending me ads for gambling it would be nice.

i, myself, have been subject to these algorithms that i began to notice the structures and patterns to which i have been so addicted with. media literacy is highly important to teenagers these days. if we fail to educate the youth, we all might experience the consequences of falling into these rabbit holes. let's make the internet ecosystem a better and healthier place for everyone.

This is a great series. I would like to see an addendum though about the problems with accessing information behind paywalls, and also with the EU's horrible copyright thing. I just tried to verify an article laterally and was blocked by no less than 4 paywalls. I don't think I need to say how much this sucks. :/

Realizing that confirmation bias is a thing we all have is a huge step in viewing information in a more neutral light, because as bad as fake news is, when you yourself can't be trusted to discern it because of your preconceived notions you become part of the problem.

Wrong. If your battery is at 17% you should probably save it in case there's an emergency. Turn off Wifi, Data and Bluetooth, put the phone away, and enjoy the beautiful park which will not be turned into a monster truck racing track.

Just wanted to chime in to say thanks for making this series. Slowly but surely the information is penetrating: I just added site: .org or site: .edu to a bunch of searches I did about gardening, and the quality of results skyrocketed

I'm sad to point this out but.
4: 19 - citing stats without providing a source,
9: 34 - citing research without providing a source
These are the kind of things you taught us not to trust in previous videos.
