Today we're going to take a look at mineral extraction julia: I thought that rare-earth metals are not rare just -rare- in the sense that it is rare for the people of the country to tolerate rare-earth mining. They can get away with it in countries where the central government has greater control of the people in the area or where there is little control at all by anyone. The USA has -rare-earths- just that people don't want mines in their area or in areas where the results would affect the people that have a say in how the area is used.

The DRC has been in conflict since its independence.
Specifically because it's full of such strategically important resources. Western nations intentionally murder DRC leaders that threaten the status quo.
The DRC could be the richest most powerful nation in Africa. It'll never be allowed to as long as that wealth and power cause even slightly less money to go to already wealthy western corporate conglomerates.

Hey, crash course, just wondering, but are you guys still doing history? If so, I'd like to say I LOVE THE VIDEOS AND THE JOKES, JOHN GREEN! If not, still send this to John Green in any way

I wish we had been taught things like this at school. I enjoy watching these kinds of videos but it pains me how little of practical use I learned in school
