Binary and Multiple Stars: Crash Course Astronomy #34

Double stars are stars that appear to be near each other in the sky, but if they-re gravitationally bound together we call them binary stars. Many stars are actually part of binary or multiple systems. If they are close enough together they can actually touch other, merging into one peanut-shaped star. In some close binaries matter can flow from one star to the other, changing the way it ages. If one star is a white dwarf, this can cause periodic explosions, and possibly even lead to blowing up the entire star. Crash Course Astronomy Poster

Jupiter is more star than planet. Stars are gas giants undergoing fusion, gas giants are small stars, Dwarf Dwarf stars you might say, its about time we reconsidered terminology and definitions of all the objects in this system, i mean Pluto atleast has -planet- in its title of Dwarf Planet, yet its no planet. Most of our terminology still runs on the assumption that we are the only system that is this way, a planet is only a planet when it orbits sol, our star, all other planets are exoplanets, which in my thinking should just be an ejected planet nolonger orbiting its host star, not just any planet not in the sol system

robin hood didn't rob the rich. he took back the money the state took in taxes. when you rob the rich everybody becomes poorer. You cannot create wealth by dividing the existing wealth. you can only create wealth by letting people create wealth. that means freedom and capitalism, not socialist redistribution. let me guess. you vote democrat? nvm. in this days even the republicans dont shy away from robbing peoples wealth.

If two stars are orbiting each other and one of them gobbles up the other star doesn't the gravity of the gobbled up star go away and then the other star becomes a rogue star and heads out in space on whatever direction it was headed? When our sun burns out the way that I learned it could, shouldn't Jupiter and the other left over planets and whatever else is orbiting the sun all become rogue?

tHAT WAS PROBABLY ONE OF THE EASIEST EXPLANATIONS TO FOLLOW ON WHY WHITE DWARFS GO SUPERNOVA AFTER ACCUMULATING ENOUGH MATTER FROM A COMPANION STAR, GREAT JOB, REALLY LIKING THESE VIDS, EVEN MY GF FINDS THEM INTERESTING! =d

My caps lock was on, I am not re typing this, sorry =P

Hey Phil should've mentioned this type of supernova is called a Type 1a supernova, in contrast to the Type 2 supernova formed from the core collapse of a massive star. He should've also mentioned the physicist Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, and that the number 1. 4 is called the Chandrasekhar Limit.

Ive began to stargaze regularly these whole week. After being quite familiar with the stars and the constellations, and knowing the fact most I see is multiple star system. Can't help myself but to open this course. This course is perfect
