Salmon make a perilous voyage upstream past hungry eagles and bears to mate in forest creeks. When the salmon die, a new journey begins with maggots Kitty: Geeze humans in general, they don't even think about the world of complexity that they're living in and disrupting with their actions, we think entirely within the confines of us most of the time. A rather unfortunate failing, given that the comprehension of systems like this with our big ol brains, and using that info to empathize with the experiences of other living things, is one of the few positive qualities that separates us from the maggots (and I like bugs, but maggots? hiafhdifdis heard too many stories of Hiroshima victims with maggots hatching in their wounds)

Thats a salmon! They live in the shallow water and rivers. Streams. And brooks. Atlantic salmon can live in the river. Rainbow salmon can live in streams

As much as I can't stand flies, I know they play an important role in the ecosystem. I still don't understand the purpose of cockroaches tho

I love this episode. It's not the usual format, but it tells a beautiful, ecological, North American tale.

Beautifully illustrated cycle. The intense footage of the fly maggots in the decaying salmon i my favorite.
