we learn what a kWh is, the kilowatt hour is used for energy bills and related to the amount of electricity consumed by electrical items. We run through what a kilowatt and a kilowatt hour is as well as watts and joules. We see worked examples at the end for how to calculate kwh consumption and electricity bills. Clarification: At 2: 06 I have said 1kW x 1, 000 = Watts I am literally typing 1 x 1, 000 = 1, 000W I use the kW value as is, neglecting the k and do not add the zeros. So if it was 15. 8kW I would type 15. 8 x 1, 000 = 15, 800 Watts

The billing at Octopus got so bad and caused so much stress i left it in the end and had to put a complaint to the ombudsman, Not to many people know but energy companies donate tens of thousands of pounds to mediation companies to keep the cases out of court, If a case points out a serious failing everybody and their dog would be suing energy companies.
Chances are going to mediation via the Ombubsman or trust pilot you being just one person and the companies are donating money to them you will loose.
Generally best you can do is go to social media and just tell people whats going on.
At the end of the day the money is to big although i have the proof of whats been going on i expect to loose as others have done

Look at there fact sheets. And fine the cheapest kWh you can. Ie. 20 cents a kWh. And as they keep putting it up you need to check
Again who has the cheapest kWh price. And change again, you will save hundreds, or thousands on your bills depending on how much

Wait, at 0: 56 he says On the electrical goods you purchase, you'll see a value stated in W or kW; This is the power demand of the item, it tells us how much energy _per second_ this will demand to work. So according to that, a 100W lightbulb should require 360kW per hour (100W x 60 seconds x 60 minutes = 360, 000W or 360kW. This is obviously wrong, but where is the error? Did he misspeak and mean to say per hour instead of per second?

In the beginning of the video you state the Watt rating on the box/package indicates how much power is used per second. If a 60W light bulb is used for one hour, that would be 60W per second at 60 seconds per minute at 60 minutes (60W x 60 x 60) for a total of 216, 000W or 216kW. So is the statement at the beginning of the video accurate? If so, what am I missing?

Many people, including myself, often mistake the kWh unit of measure for how many killowatts a device will use per hour, which is wrong. The easier way to think about this so as to get it right every time is to imagine how much energy a device will use in a TIME INTERVAL. This could be an hour, but it can also be a minute, a couple of hours, a week etc.

Thanks for all these videos! College physics was decades ago, and going long periods of time not doing any electrical work, these are all great reviews. Of course for ths real stuff, I hire a licensed electrician. So great to study this again, wish your videos were around when I'd be burning the midnight oil studying. Cheers!

Correct me if I am wrong, but I dont understand the #of kilowatts x 1000 = watts explanation starting at 2: 05. This doesnt add up in the example given. As stated in your videos example, 1kw (or 1000 watts) x 1000 = 1000 watts. This is false, and confusing.

To me (I'm dumb) it would make a lot of sense to say Ws (watt seconds) instead of just W or Watt. Same for kW (kilowatt); shouldn't it be kWs (kilowatt seconds? When it goes to kWh it would be easy to associate the unit conversion from seconds to hours.

Dude you're over complicating it. Cant you just use
(watts of device)/(1000 for the kw) then multiply that by your price per kWh. That gives you the price per hour for the device. You can then multiply that answer times a percent of an hour if needed

What does he read every day? What are his practice sessions like? How does he come up with this level of word play? How does he have instant access to knowledge in all areas? How often is he reading? Whats the split between knowledge and practice?

So, since 1 kW is 1000 J/s, why don't we have to convert a kW into a unit per hours before calculating how many kWh are used? In the beginning of the video you mentioned a multiplier of x3600 for seconds in an hour, but then it was never used

I appreciate HIGHLY That it is explained what a watt is. That the origin/meaning is just the name of the eventor. And not some other meaning that would need further work in discovering.

3: 36 Formula units are incorrect. Should be 30 seconds divided by 3, 600 seconds/hr for the seconds to cancel out. You say it right, but the text is incorrect on screen. Ciao!

At point 2: 04 I think there's an error, it should be: kW/1000 = W or kW = 1000 W or kW = W x 1000.
Tip: think of k = 1000 and when you see (kW) it's basically (1000 W)

All is good, but one Joule is an amount of Energy (i. e. useful work) thus it is independent of time, unlike power which is energy per unit time and thus depends on time.

Does the rated power on these electric device remains the same even if i reduced its power? Or is the rated power indicates the maximum power this device can deliver?

Just take the total amount of your Bill then divide your Kwh into it then divide that by 100 and that is the true cost of your Kwh and the result is shocking!

at 3: 05, the heater is 2KW, why are we doing 2KW 3H = 6KWH, should it be 2KW 3600 3 = KWH, like the calculation for the 100w light

This is a Old Video, But 2: 08 isn't stated correctly. 1 kilowatt is 1000 watts! I'm not sure what is calculations are there?
