HACKED! : CRT TV becomes a crude Oscilloscope Nothing\: One thing he didn't mention is the fact that TVs use high voltage, which can kill you, or your scope if you don't know what you're doing. It seems kind of remiss, since this is presented in a way which implies it's a guide on how to do this. Even though it doesn't provide enough details and technical information to do this safely. I may be mistaken, but I think I recall him including warnings in more recent videos. It would be a good idea to retroactively add such a warning to these types of videos. If it keeps even one over-enthusiastic person from making a mistake which could cost them their life, there's no reason not to.

Akschually. an old mini black and white CRT TV would be way better to use because the picture would not only look smoother (due to the non existant Lochmaske) but also looking more vintage and oomph! you know. And i mean those cheap little silvery black and white TVs you often got in Germany as advertising gift. Those are very easy to come by and due to the contrast issues on those it would look a lot better on them than on a colour CRT. Who needs colour on a oscilloscope anyway?

There's a DIY oscilloscope kit available that comes with an RF output. So that would be VERY easy to use with such a small CRT TV. You wouldn't even have to mutilate the internal wiring of the television.

I had a portable CRT TV with me for a long time, planned to do this experiment. But I did not use the stuff for long time and one fine day, my wife threw it away as e-waste.

How about the same project on a LCD screen with the essence of RGB screen for different wave forms. As LCD utilise the same vertical and horizontal sinchronisation

Very with it and clever!
It does have a disadvantage (as a scientific instrument) in that it can only show locked waveforms that were generated by itself.

so much anxiety watching him take apart the tv. i love CRTs and have a few but man they can literally kill you if you take them apart wrong.

From Great Scott, I learnt that, knowing to use osiloscope well, signal generator and ardunio, a person could do anything he - she wants!

Ok, the ad I watched before this video was an unskippable 1 minute and 30 second ad. YouTube is ridiculous. Btw love ur vid

i love how the concepts were explaines. including the effects of voltage drops, deflections of electrons. Good job Mr. Scott!
