Decolonization in America - Summary on a Map

Let's retrace on maps the various wars that conducted to the independences of all actual countries in America So: This is great, the only gripe I have is it makes it seem the Texans seceded because of the abolition of slavery.
This might have been some of the reason, but it was largely cultural as the Protestant English speaking settlers did not want to be forced into Catholicism or speak Spanish. They even petitioned the government to be largely autonomous with the promise to not try and join the US if left alone.
As the Mexican government became more centralized (Mexican President Santa Ana being hailed as the Napoleon of the West) the white settlers along with the Spanish speaking Tejanos lost their autonomous status as the laws were finally being enforced and taxation soon followed. Truth is many Mexican states opposed this centralization and rebelled, however Texas was the only one that succeeded.
Despite many modern Texans pride for this period of independence, Texas desperately tried to be annexed by the US. They were unfortunately forced to be an independent state as the US would not take them out of fear of ruining relations with Mexico and France (who had interests in Mexico) plus their greater concern was establishing an official border with Canada and diplomacy surrounding the Oregon territory which was occupied jointly by with the British.
Later with British involvement in Texas (there actually was a Texas embassy being built in London, the rise in hostilities between Mexico and Texas with atrocities such as the Black Bean Massacre that sparked international outrage, and a huge push by Texas President Sam Houston for annexation;
Texas was finally annexed by the US almost 10 years after seceding setting the stage for the Mexican-American War.

A lot is made of independence of these lands as though they were escaping cruelty. The truth is the colonists stuck a knife in the back of the countries they came from. Enjoying the resources, people and start up from the european countries they came from, whilst then shafting them in the back to rule the new land themselves. Remember, these were mostly europeans who moved to the Americas. The only people in the Americas who were really oppressed were the indigenous tribes who were displaced and removed from their homes. So independence of any north or south american country should be somewhat less of a celebration.

Great video! I understand that this is just a brief overview of what happened and when, but something interesting about Canada was left out.
In 1866, there was a bill in US Congress to annex all of Canada for 10 million dollars, paired with assuming all of the colonial debt and pledging to invest millions into the area. There was some interest among Americans in passing the bill, especially those in support of the Fenians.
Obviously, the bill never passed. It never went to the house or senate, and didnt go anywhere besides the committee.
Have a nice day!

Basically Napoleon destroyed american colonies, it resumes everything. Although for the portuguese the royal family were cowards, they runned away in fear to Brazil and yet Portugal was successfully defended against Napoleon invasion 3x. There was no need for the royal family run away. If they didn't do that, Brazil probably wouldn't be independent any time soon.

During the American Revolution, of the 3 countries you mentioned, only France was directly allied with the 13 Colonies.
Spain and The United Provinces allied themselves to France only and not to the 13 Colonies.
Fact:
Spain and The United Provinces contributed nothing to the American Revolution

7: 25 internal problems, yeah like him trying to reinstate slavery which peruvian liberals had managed to get the spanish crown to abolish, or how he wanted to shut down the newly created congress, he was going to become a dictator, Peruvians defeated him, Bolivar was a tyrant not a savior

The US demanding Europe to not recolonize any American territory ever again, in order to them doing it themselves -_- The separation of Panama from Colombia really annoys me. It was a brutal war (the 1000 days war) clearly provoked by the US.

It baffles me that Hollywood never produced a movie about the great historical Haitian Revolution which produced the first Independent Black Republic in the world by defeating the British, the French and the Spanish to gain their independence.
reply

As you almost explained and left out at very beginningand end, in reality we The nato, central, south America and Caribbean by blood only ones belong here in this lands. and all you are from Europe! Is on the DNA and that don't lie!
reply

A fact about the Haitian Revolution: the slaves outnumbered the white and free people of color by over 10-1.
It helps to give some perspective why that slave rebellion was successful where all others werent

You could have spared a few minutes to talk about the genocide of the natives of America which was ongoing during this decolonisation (europeans claiming independence of land that isn't theirs to begin with)
reply

Spain: a speedrunner
Great Britain: trying to conquer all of america involving wars
France: average colonial power
United provinces: the nation that wants more land but only gets new Amsterdam

reply

Nicely done! My only criticism is the short shrift you gave to the transfer of Louisiana from Spanish to French control. That seems like a pretty big land swap. I wouldve loved to learn more about that topic.

I never understood what they were gaining independence from. weren't they all white people who came to America and later on they fought with their own origin countries and wanted independence from them?
reply

Theres no such thing as decolonization. The only way that would be the case, is if all the white people moved back to Europe and gave the continent back to the indigenous people.
reply

0: 53 It's odd that in American narrative of their revolutionary war & independence the involvement of French Empire, Spanish Empire & the Dutch is never seem to be mentioned.
reply

This leads to oddities like the fact that parts of the carribean are in the EU and you can take a flight from amsterdam to the windward islands without crossing a border
reply

it was a piece of luck that Britain ditched USA so early. Not a place you want to be associated with because of its racism and genocide of indigenous people.
reply

What rubbish. The decolonization of America? Tell that to the native indigenous populations! America was merely recolonized by a different set of colonizers.
